Abstract: A front-end signal generator for hardware-in-the-loop simulators of a simulated missile is disclosed. The front-end signal generator is driven by the Digital Scene And Reticle Simulation-Hardware In The Loop (DSARS-HITL) simulator. The simulator utilizes a computer to calculate irradiance on an Electro-Optical/Infrared (EO/IR) detector. The generator converts irradiance values into voltages that are injected into the missile's electronics during simulation. The conversion is done with low latency and a high dynamic range sufficient for hardware-in-the-loop simulation. The generator is capable of emulating laser pulse inputs that would be present during laser-based jammer countermeasures. Computer control of the generator occurs via front-panel-data-port (FPDP).

  • Patent number: 8798105
Abstract: A compact, lightweight, laser target designator uses a TIR bounce geometry to place an end-pumped gain element functionally in the center of the resonator path, thereby allowing the resonator path to be terminated by a pair of crossed Porro prisms, so that the designator produces a high quality beam that is insensitive to alignment and temperature, and is low in manufacturing cost. Some embodiments fold the Porro legs of the resonator path back toward the gain element for compactness. Embodiments use a single gain element as both an oscillator gain element with TIR and as an output amplifier gain element without TIR. Various embodiments use block optical elements in a planar layout on a standard support medium such as aluminum to facilitate automated manufacturing.

  • Patent number: 8794968
Abstract: Methods and systems are provided for making more accurate range and marksmanship determinations in laser-based military engagements. These methods and systems allow a shooter and a target in a laser engagement system to be paired with one another in a substantially unambiguous manner. Such pairing allows the lasers to be used at full power and is particularly well suited for clustered environments in which multiple combatants may be in close proximity to one another. The methods and systems are also particularly well suited for testing new or experimental weapon systems by virtue of the more accurate range and marksmanship estimates provided.

  • Patent number: 8788884
Abstract: An approach to detection and repair of application level semantic errors in deployed software includes inferring aspects of correct operation of a program. For instance, a suite of examples of operations that are known or assumed to be correct are used to infer correct operation. Further operation of the program can be compared to results found during correct operation and the logic of the program can be augmented to ensure that aspects of further examples of operation of the program are sufficiently similar to the examples in the correct suite. In some examples, the similarity is based on identifying invariants that are satisfied at certain points in the program execution, and augmenting (e.g., “patching”) the logic includes adding tests to confirm that the invariants are satisfied in the new examples. In some examples, the logic invokes an automatic or semi-automatic error handling procedure if the test is not satisfied.
