  • Patent number: 10422644
Abstract: A method for improving target location accuracy in direction finding systems is disclosed. A target search region is identified based on a set of received signals, and the target search region is projected onto the earth's surface. An initial search grid, which is smaller than the target search region, is placed within the target search region. Next, the initial search grid is expanded to a full search grid by using an optimum number of virtual grid points in order to cover the entire target search region. The correlation coefficients at the virtual grid points between the estimated phases of emitted signals and the estimated phases of the received signals are then calculated. A target is designated as being at a location associated with the highest correlation coefficient. At this point, a new travel path can be initiated to engage or avoid the target.

  • Patent number: 10418770
Abstract: The present invention is an electrical slip ring device comprised of a stator, a rotor and an independent rotationally free brush ring. The brush ring may include a multitude of slipping fingers, chevrons or other current carrying structures that extend between the rotor and the stator. These current carrying structures have a directional bias or “lay”. The rotational freedom of the brush ring enables bi-directional movement of the rotor with reduced torque and wear at the sliding interfaces because sliding always occurs in the direction of the lay.

  • Publication number: 20190276139
Abstract: A control system (200) using fixed point computation avoids overflow conditions by limiting the internal quantities ensuring that contributing calculations from various parts of the control loop never add up to an overflow. Various parts of a control loop e.g. proportional terms can be prioritised over other parts, e.g. integral and differential terms and ensuring that the overall total resulting when the separate terms are summed together never exceeds the maximum or minimum imposed limits. Variable limit calculator circuits (211,219) revise the limits according to the output of the higher priority control path(s). The revised limits cascade down through each contributor, eventually allowing the lowest priority control path the smallest authority. The control system may be applied to control of a drive motor (111) for an aircraft inceptor (103).

  • Patent number: 10409059
Abstract: The present invention provides a projection display, for displaying an image to a viewer. An image-providing light source device is arranged to inject an input pupil of multi-spectral image bearing light into a waveguide assembly. The waveguide assembly comprises first and second diffraction regions arranged respectively for expanding the input pupil in first and second generally orthogonal dimensions and outputting an exit pupil expanded in the first and second dimensions from the waveguide assembly. The diffractive regions of the waveguide assembly are matched to cause zero or substantially zero net chromatic aberration. A combiner is arranged to direct the exit pupil towards the viewer for viewing an image and to transmit light from a real world scene through the combiner so that the image overlays the light from the real world scene.

  • Patent number: 10409927
Abstract: A method and apparatus for producing a design for a system (2) that comprises a plurality of subsystems (4, 6) is provided. Criteria to be satisfied by the system (2) are identified. For each subsystem (4, 6), further criteria that are to be satisfied by that subsystem (4, 6) are determined and a parametric model (8, 16) is then determined. These comprise inputs (10, 18) and outputs (14, 22) that are dependent on the inputs (10, 18). A systems engineering model (100) comprising, as inputs, parametric model inputs (10, 18) is then determined. System model outputs (28) are dependent on the system model inputs. Groups consisting of some of the system model inputs are formed and an optimization process is performed, for each group, to determine inputs that optimize the system model outputs (28). A set of inputs that optimize the system model outputs (28) provides a design for the system.
