Patent number: 10345561Abstract: A laser beam dump is provided. The laser beam dump may include a housing that has a plurality of connected walls defining an atypical or asymmetrical polygonal prism. When viewed in longitudinal cross-section, the asymmetrical polygonal prism housing defines a general hexagon shape. A chamber is defined by the housing and a highly reflective cone is positioned therein. The inner surfaces of the housing are formed from a highly absorptive material with respect to electromagnetic energy in the form of a laser beam. When an laser beam enters the chamber of the beam dump, it contacts the highly reflective cone outer surface and it nearly fully reflected to the absorptive walls of the housing. This reduces the reflection scatter of light from the first contact with the cone.Type: GrantFiled: December 15, 2016Date of Patent: July 9, 2019Assignee: BAE Systems Information and Electronic Systems Integration Inc.Inventor: Jonathan L. Patent number: 10348347Abstract: An apparatus for monitoring radio frequency (RF) signals is disclosed. The apparatus includes an RF splitter, a set of track-and-hold circuits, a set of analog-to-digital circuits (ADC) and a frequency tracking module. Patent number: 10274579Abstract: A method for improving direction finding and geolocation error estimation in direction finding and geolocation systems is disclosed. The corresponding phases of the received signals are determined. After an initial target estimation point of the received signals has been identified, the initial target estimation point is projected onto the earth's surface. A search grid having multiple grid points is then overlaid on the projected initial target estimation point, surrounding the projected initial target estimation point. The phase of signals emitting from a theoretical emitter located at each of the grid points of the search grid is estimated. Correlation coefficients between the estimated phases of the emitting signals and the determined phases of the received signals are determined. An error ellipse can be generated around one of the grid points having the highest correlation coefficient, and a source emitter is likely to be located within the error ellipse.Type: GrantFiled: March 15, 2017Date of Patent: April 30, 2019Assignee: BAE Systems Information and Electronic Systems Integration Inc.Inventors: Gerald J. Patent number: 10277320Abstract: A disclosed apparatus and method verify whether a hot spot within a scene is a valid laser-com signal, and further identify laser-com signals of interest. An extended Kalman filter (EKF) is applied to a received signal or beacon to detect whether it is modulated according to a square wave or other expected amplitude modulation pattern. Embodiments further determine whether the modulation frequency matches a signal or beacon of interest. In embodiments, a plurality of indexed EKF's are “tuned” to different modulation frequencies, and are used to identify a beacon's modulation frequency index. Where each EKF is required to compute amplitude and phase partial derivatives of the observation vector, the amplitude partials can be calculated according to the expected modulation pattern, and the phase partials can be calculated using a truncated Fourier or step-wise approximation of the expected modulation pattern. Embodiments further assume a time-invariant covariance matrix.Type: GrantFiled: May 1, 2018Date of Patent: April 30, 2019Assignee: BAE Systems Information and Electronic Systems Integration Inc.Inventors: David A Haessig, Jr., Dennis P Bowler, Robert T Carlson
