Patent number: 10666475Abstract: An electronic transmitter includes: a modulator to phase modulate a carrier signal with a baseband signal using a phase modulation sequence; and an emitter to emit the phase modulated signal. The phase modulated signal has poor autocorrelation, has a corresponding mismatched filter based on the phase modulation sequence, and is configured to demodulate into the baseband signal through poor cross-correlation with the mismatched filter. Sometimes, the transmitter is part of a sensing apparatus, where the emitter emits the phase modulated signal at a target and the emitted signal reflects off the target. The sensing apparatus includes a receiver that has a collector to collect the reflected signal, and a demodulator to demodulate the collected signal into the baseband signal through the poor cross-correlation with the mismatched filter. Sometimes, the transmitter is part of a communication system, where the emitter emits the phase modulated signal to an intended recipient.Type: GrantFiled: October 29, 2018Date of Patent: May 26, 2020Assignee: BAE Systems Information and Electronic Systems Integration Inc.Inventors: William D. Patent number: 10663260Abstract: A targeting system for guidance correction of a projectile along a flight path toward a target. The targeting system includes seeker/guidance system mounted on the projectile which controls guidance of the projectile along the flight path toward the target. A remote fire control system receives and displays a survey image of a battlefield and enables an operator to mark location coordinates of the target in the survey image. Based on the location coordinates, the fire control system defines a reference image and transmits the reference image and location coordinates to the seeker/guidance system for use in guiding the projectile toward the target. If the target moves as the projectile travels toward the target, the remote fire control system enables the operator to update the location coordinates and transmit only an offset of the coordinates to the seeker/guidance system which then adjusts or corrects the flight path of the projectile.Type: GrantFiled: November 20, 2017Date of Patent: May 26, 2020Assignee: BAE Systems Information and Electronic Systems Integration Inc.Inventor: Michael J. Patent number: 10663728Abstract: A binocular display device comprising two ocular assemblies (1A, 1B) to be worn by a user concurrently with one respective ocular assembly at each eye. Each ocular assembly comprises an outer optical part having a positive optical strength (2A, 2B), an inner optical part (4A, 4B) having a negative optical strength and a transparent slab waveguide display part (3A, 3B) in between them. Substantially collimated display light is output from the waveguide for display, and external light of an external scene is transmitted through the waveguide from the outer optical part for viewing concurrently with the display light. The inner optical part imposes a divergence on the received display light to generate a virtual focal point (f) substantially common to each ocular assembly. In use, an image conveyed by the display light is superimposed on the external scene as a three-dimensional (3D) image when viewed through the binocular display device.Type: GrantFiled: May 4, 2016Date of Patent: May 26, 2020Assignee: BAE SYSTEMS plcInventor: Michael David Simmonds

Publication number: 20200150229Abstract: A LIDAR system and a method for operating a LIDAR system are disclosed. The LIDAR system broadly includes a transmitter that that emits a light pulse in response to a launch signal, a receiver that detects light pulses and determines a time of arrival for each detected light pulse; and a controller that generates an ordered sequence of frames. The controller generates a launch signal at the start of each frame and records information specifying a time of arrival relative to the start time for all light pulses received by the receiver until a stop time. After the stop time, the controller waits for the interframe delay time before generating another launch signal. The interframe delay time is different for each frame in the sequence of frames. The controller determines a distance between the transmitter and an object from the recorded information.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 7, 2018Publication date: May 14, 2020Applicant: BAE Systems Imaging Solutions Inc.Inventors: Alberto M.
