Patent number: 5549538Abstract: A process for manufacturing a multi-ply square bottom bag having a front wall, a back wall, a pair of gusseted side walls, each of which join to said front and back walls. There is also formed a gusseted square bottom panel having spaced but substantially parallel gusset edges and said bottom is joined to the front, back and side walls. The bag is produced by providing a web of inner ply material and a web of outer ply material, adhesively joining said webs into a composite and forming said bag from said joined webs. The improvement relates to forming a first flap in the inner web by cutting the web so as to form a plurality of free edges and a hinge line for said flap. The hinge line is connected to the free edges so that the free edges and hinge line define the flap. This type of resolution can be achieved using a rotogravure process. For ease in manufacturing, several indicia are printed on a web, which is then longitudinally slit to separate the indicia and then cut transversely into patches for application to the bag. Patent number: 5335996Abstract: A bag for carrying and exposing a food item, usually of the hamburger-type sold at fast-food or convenience stores. The bag includes front, back and gusseted side panels which are interconnected and form a V-shaped closed end and an open end. A pair of lines of weakness or perforations are provided in the bag, one along the junction of each side panel and the front panel and extending between the open and closed ends. A pair of slits, one member associated with each line of perforation and extending from the bag open end to the respective perforation line. A second set of slits can be provided at open end of each of the non-perforated side panel/back panel junctions can be provided. The bag having a width or the distance between the lines of perforations being substantially equal to the width of the front panel. Patent number: 4493685Abstract: In making a tubular bag, a first band of thermosetting glue is printed across the length of a web, and a second and third band of such glue is printed on the opposite side of the web in registry with the ends of the first band. The printed glue is then dried with a heat below that of the softening temperature of the thermosetting glue. Glue is applied to a marginal edge of the web and the marginal edges are overlapped and thus glued together as a back seam. An increment of the tube is severed at said bands without heating such bands, and the web is folded along a line extending centrally through the glue bands. A second band and a third band of thermosetting glue are imprinted on the tube at the exterior thereof in registry with the ends of the first band and jointly extend across a rear panel. The tube has a turned up bottom defined by a fold along a line extending centrally along the imprinted bands, each portion of the thermosetting glue bands being thermally fused only to other portions of such bands in contact therewith.
