Patent number: 4115063Abstract: A method for determining both the inorganic and the metallo-organic salt content in an organic solvent. A salt-free polar solvent is added to and is mixed with a sample of an organic solvent to be analyzed, producing a two-phase intermediate solution. The intermediate soluton is mixed with and is dissolved in another salt-free solvent in which the polar solvent and the organic solvent are mutually soluble, producing a one-phase final solution. The total salt content (inorganic plus metallo-organic) of the final solution is determined by conventional techniques such as, flame photometry or atomic adsorption spectrometry.Type: GrantFiled: April 11, 1977Date of Patent: September 19, 1978Assignee: Baird-Atomic, Inc.Inventor: Donald R. Demers

Patent number: 4076978Abstract: A tapered or twisted fiber optic bundle having a unidirectional diffuser at an output face thereof defines a fiber optic bundle beam expander. In a viewing system, such a beam expander is provided at the output of an image intensifier tube for unidirectionally spreading rays of an amplified image in a horizontal direction for biocular viewing.Type: GrantFiled: October 14, 1976Date of Patent: February 28, 1978Assignee: Baird-Atomic, Inc.Inventors: Thomas M. Brennan, Robert M. Burley

Patent number: 4048501Abstract: A computer controlled high resolution radioactivity distribution detection system is provided for sensing radioactive events in a biological specimen. The system includes a rotating disc memory which contains instructional data for controlling the computer. Radiation emitted from a subject positioned on a programmable XY platform is directed through a collimator and is detected by means of an array of sensing devices and front end electronics. The detected radioactive events are temporarily held in a buffer memory under control of the computer for storage. The temporarily stored data is fed via the computer to a disc memory for long term storage, a disc controller constitutes an interface to the disc memory. The stored data is then applied to a display via computer for presentation.Type: GrantFiled: January 14, 1976Date of Patent: September 13, 1977Assignee: Baird-Atomic, Inc.Inventor: Raymond P. Grenier

Patent number: 4044332Abstract: A device for presenting a halftone pictorial presentation composed of dot picture elements by selectively controlling the number of dot picture elements per unit area at locations on a display. In a high resolution radioactivity distribution detection system, the number of detected radioactive elements at XY locations of an array of sensing devices are fed to a computer and stored at corresponding address locations. The number of radioactive events detected at each address location is normalized into Gray scale coded signals as a function of the greatest number of radioactive events detected at any one address location. The normalized Gray scale coded signals are applied to a display for controlling the number of dot picture elements per unit area presented at corresponding XY locations on the display.Type: GrantFiled: June 9, 1975Date of Patent: August 23, 1977Assignee: Baird-Atomic, Inc.Inventor: Raymond P. Grenier

Patent number: 4037161Abstract: An electro-optical device for generating data signals representing relative displacement between an aperture pattern in a reference plane and a reflective pattern in a measurement plane comprises a reference detector for sensing reference radiation directed towards the aperture pattern and a convolution detector for sensing the reference radiation reflected by the reflective pattern. The phase of a signal generated by the convolution detector is compared to the phase of a signal generated by the reference detector for generating the data signals defining the relative displacement between the aperture pattern and the reflective pattern.Type: GrantFiled: December 3, 1975Date of Patent: July 19, 1977Assignee: Baird-Atomic, Inc.Inventor: William E. Patent number: 3958883Abstract: In a spectroscopic apparatus, a desolvated aerosol containing sample impurities to be analyzed is introduced into the center of a toroidal shaped plasma which is excited by an inductively coupled radio frequency power oscillator characterized by a single resonant circuit comprising an induction coil and its associated tuning capacitor, the plasma being produced by passing a gas stream along the axis of the induction coil. The single resonant circuit defined by the interconnection between the plate tank circuit and the grid tank circuit of the radio frequency power oscillator is such as to provide a common inductance for both circuits and to furnish power output and feedback for maintaining oscillation, whereby any detuning caused by introduction of the desolvated aerosol into the plasma does not affect the level of power transfer over a wide range.Type: GrantFiled: July 10, 1974Date of Patent: May 25, 1976Assignee: Baird-Atomic, Inc.Inventor: Arthur S.
