Abstract: A method of protecting a component in a wet environment includes disposing a component into a wet environment, deploying a granulated disintegrable material into the wet environment and temporarily covering a portion of the component with the granulated disintegrable material, at least partially disintegrating the granulated disintegrable material, and flushing the granulated disintegrable material away from the portion.
Abstract: In one aspect, a method of completing a wellbore is disclosed that in one non-limiting embodiment includes: placing a completion assembly in the wellbore, the completion assembly including a first link along an outside the completion; placing a second link between a surface location and a subsea location; placing a string having a third link between the first link and the second link; and connecting the third link to the first link and the second link to provide a continuous link between the completion assembly and the surface location.
Abstract: Capped nanoparticles may be added to an oil-based fluid to improve the electrical conductivity of the oil-based fluid. The oil-based fluid may be a drilling fluid, a completion fluid, a drill-in fluid, a stimulation fluid, a servicing fluid, and combinations thereof. In a non-limiting embodiment, the oil-based fluid composition may be circulated in a subterranean reservoir wellbore.

Abstract: An earth-boring tool includes a tool body, at least one cutting element, and a retaining member comprising a shape memory material (e.g., alloy, polymer, etc.) located between a surface of the tool body and a surface of the cutting element. The shape memory material is configured to transform, responsive to application of a stimulus, from a first solid phase to a second solid phase. The retaining member comprises the shape memory material in the second solid phase, and at least partially retains the at least one cutting element adjacent the tool body. The shape memory material may be trained in a first phase to a first shape, and trained in a second phase to a second shape. The retaining member may be at least partially within a cavity in the first phase, then transformed to the second phase to apply a force securing the cutting element to the tool body.

Abstract: Carbon quantum dots are used as tracers during the production of hydrocarbons. The tracer may be used to identify fluids produced from the reservoir. When used in the fracturing of multiple zones of the reservoir, qualitatively distinguishable carbon quantum dots may be used to identify the zone within the reservoir from which recovered fluid was produced. The carbon quantum dots may also be used in water flooding to determine water breakthrough in the production well. Upon water breakthrough in a production well, they may also be used to identify those injection wells from which breakthrough water originates.

Abstract: A backup or extrusion barrier ring assembly has multiple rows of rings in segments that have circumferentially offset slots. The rings are rotationally locked to each other to maintain the circumferential offset of the slots that allow the rings to be more flexible in the setting process. The rings as a unit can be mounted to relatively rotate on a supporting mandrel. The rings are mounted to allow them to move axially during setting either in tandem or axially relatively to each other. The axial run in heights of rings decline from innermost to outermost so that when set the heights approach each other to minimize or eliminate sharp ends against the seal. Alternatively, the height difference can be such as to allow ends to bend over an adjacent end further out radially so that free ends bend toward the surrounding tubular and avoid the seal.
