Abstract: A perforating gun assembly for a monobore application eliminates a full bore isolation valve or other component that has a limiting internal or external dimension and is designed to remain in position after firing. The assembly is run into the hole on a string with a running tool and left in position with the string and the running tool removed. Pressure pulses communicate with a detonation control system to open a poppet to pressurize a chamber with a firing head. It should be noted that other types firing heads can also be utilized to initiate detonation in the system. Detonation clears the gun internals for flow and opens a gun valve that has no reduction in drift dimension as compared to the gun internal path after detonation. Production takes place through and around the gun.

  • Publication number: 20120118573
Abstract: A fracturing operation is done in open hole. The annular space is spanned by telescoping members that are located behind isolation valves. A given bank of telescoping members can be uncovered and the telescoping members extended to span the annular space and engage the formation in a sealing manner. Pressurized fracturing fluid can be pumped through the telescoped passages and the portion of the desired formation fractured. In a proper formation, cementing is not needed to maintain wellbore integrity. In formations that need annular space isolation, the string in a preferred embodiment can have an external material that grows to seal the annular space in lieu of a traditional cementing operation.

  • Publication number: 20070274849
Abstract: Upstream and downstream pump assemblies are mounted in a capsule having a bulkhead between the upstream and downstream pump assemblies, dividing the capsule into upstream and downstream chambers sealed from each other. In a dual operation mode, well fluid flows through the inlet of the capsule into the upstream chamber, where it is pumped to a first pressure level by the upstream pump assembly and discharged into the downstream chamber. The downstream pump assembly then pumps the well fluid to a second pressure level and discharges the well fluid out the outlet of the capsule. The assembly has also an upstream pump assembly only operational mode and a downstream pump assembly only operational mode.

  • Patent number: 5262743
Abstract: A microwave process seal and method is provided for use, for example, in the detection of ullage level and flow in a vessel or conduit by detecting the presence of a solid or liquid material in proximity to a microwave detector. Particularly, a horn design is provided in conjunction with, the microwave process seal of the present invention which fits in the mouth of the horn. The microwave process seal is kept as thin as possible to meet pressure requirements. The surface of the seal is oriented at or near the Brewster angle. The Brewster angle is that angle for which there is total transmission across a dielectric boundary for energy that strikes the boundary with a linear polarization.
