  • Patent number: 5839321
Abstract: An assembly that automatically compensates for backlash. The assembly includes two nut portions engaged to prevent relative rotation but permit relative movement in an axial direction. A sleeve is disposed between the nut portions with the opposite ends of the sleeve abutting annular rims formed on the nut portions. One end of the sleeve has at least one helical ramp extending around the its periphery that abuts a complementarily shaped ramp formed on the annular rim of one of the nut portions, while the other end of the sleeve has a flat outer surface abutting the flat annular rim of the other nut portion. A torsion spring has tangs secured to the sleeve and one of the nut portions and biases the sleeve rotatively with respect to the nut portions.
