Abstract: The invention relates to a calibration system (10) for characterizing luminescence measurement systems, in particular spectrally resolving, wide-field and/or confocal imaging systems, with (a) a baseplate (12) with at least one flow-through channel (18), wherein the at least one channel (18) is formed as a sample chamber for the luminescence measurement system, (b) at least one reservoir (20) in communication with the at least one channel (18) and adapted to receive a liquid, and (c) at least one focusing device (24) integrated into a baseplate (12) for setting a defined measurement beam focus of the luminescence measurement system to be calibrated by using a focusing surface (26).
Abstract: The invention is directed to a method and a kit for calibrating a photoluminescence measurement system, in particular a fluorescence measurement system. The kit includes a number of fluorescence standards i and their corrected and certified fluorescence spectra Ii(?), whereby the fluorescence standards i are selected, so that their spectrally corrected fluorescence spectra Ii(?) cover a broad spectral range with high intensity. The standards are characterized by large half-widths FWHMi of their bands of at least 1400 cm?1. According to the method of the invention, partial correction functions Fi(?) are generated by forming the quotient of the measured fluorescence spectra Ji(?) and the corresponding corrected fluorescence spectra Ii(?), which are then combined to form a total correction function F(?) for a broad spectral range.

Abstract: A method for producing a bioactive bone cement and a bone cement kit for anchoring artificial joints and for filling out bone defects. The method avoids polymerization-linked by-products and disadvantageous effects, while at the same time providing the bone cement with long-term stability. The inventive method uses a monomer-free polymethylmethacrylate, which is mixed with a suitable non-toxic solvent, and a bioactive, vitreous-crystalline material with a particle size ranging from >20 to 200 ?m, having 15–45 wt. % CaO, 40–45 wt. % P2O5, 10–40 wt. % ZrO2 and 0.7–3.5 wt. % fluoride, having apatite and calcium zircon phosphate as main crystal phases and a glass phase as an auxiliary component until a flowable mixture is obtained. The invention also relates to a bone cement kit having said components.

Abstract: The invention refers to a material which is chemically long-term stable in a neutral or slightly acid environment and which can be used both as bioactive bone replacement material, e.g. in the form of a coating applied onto metallic prosthesis sticks by thermal spraying, and as substrate material in biotechnology, e.g. in the form of a ceramic sheet. According to the invention, said material comprises 15-45% by weight CaO, 40-45% by weight P2O5, 10-40% by weight ZrO2 and fluoride, said material further comprises two crystalline phases being apatite and calcium zirconium phosphate, and a secondary glass phase. Said material has a very high chemical long-term stability, compared to known materials which can also be produced by means of a melting process.

Abstract: A drum-type fabric dyeing machine has its drum subdivided into sections by radial partitions. The partitions are connected to the drum wall by narrow perforated strips through which the dyeing liquor is discharged. The drum wall and the partition are unperforated. The partitions are connected to a perforated pipe at the center of the drum through which the dyeing liquor is introduced.

Abstract: A system and process for reducing the flowing bottom-hole pressure in a natural gas well has a first discrete fluid flow path extending from the surface well head through a valve to an inlet of a separator, the valve being actuable between a closed condition and an open condition, and a second discrete gas flow path extending from an outlet of the separator to an inlet of a compressor, the compressor maintaining a near or below zero PSIG pressure at the separator inlet. When the valve is in the closed condition, positive pressure builds on the well head side of the valve and, when the valve is in the open condition, the near or below zero PSIG pressure of the separator is applied to the well head.
Abstract: An infant hearing test apparatus, primarily intended for use in the early detection of hearing problems of human infants in the birth to eighteen month age group, subjects an infant under test to two low intensity test sounds of an electronically filtered human voice in the frequency range of about 2000 to 4000 Hz. Of particular utility are the higher frequency sounds that are associated with the voice of a human female, for example a mother speaking a language dependent endearing term such as "Hi Baby", and a language independent sound to which the infant is sensitive, such as the sound of an infant crying. Both of these sounds are used to test the infant for body movement, for example head movement, with both sounds being reproduced at a relatively low intensity of about 46 dB and at a distance of about 12 inches from the infant.

Abstract: Testing machine for the mechanical testing of material samples comprising a first and a second force engagement device, a first and a second sample engagement device, a first force measuring device which is positioned between the first sample engagement device on the one hand and the force by-pass device together with the first force engagement device on the other hand, an actuator to create the force to be applied, a force by-pass device which is connected to the first force engagement device and which tranfers an applied prestress force acting on one of the force engagement devices to the other while by-passing the sample positioned between the two sample engagement devices, whereby the force by-pass device is stiff, the second sample engagement device is, by way of a length adjustment device, slidably mounted in the direction of the application of force relative to the end of the force by-pass device which is not connected to a force engagement device and whereby the length adjustment device is connected t
