Abstract: Cross-optimization in wireless mobile networks. In an embodiment, a demand map is received for each of a plurality of networks. The demand map represents demand at a plurality of geographic locations in at least one cell of the network. Based on the demand maps, an optimal transfer of demand is generated between the plurality of networks at one or more of the plurality of geographic locations at which the plurality of networks overlap. Then, one or more parameters, to be used by at least one of the plurality of networks in a handover procedure, is determined, so as to produce the optimal transfer of demand between the plurality of networks at the one or more geographic locations at which the plurality of networks overlap.

Abstract: Systems, methods, and media for radio management based on user intervention. In an embodiment, at least one user intervention is detected in the automated radio management of a radio system. In response, the automated radio management is restricted for at least a predetermined time period by one or both of turning off the automated radio management of the radio system, and adding an access point, to which the radio system was connected at a time of the at least one user intervention, to a blacklist. After the predetermined time period has expired, the restriction to the automated radio management is reversed.

Abstract: Automated discovery of amenities. In an embodiment, when a mobile device is inactive, the mobile device is used to automatically scan an environment, using a radio system, in order to identify one or more access points within the environment. The one or more access points are then automatically scouted by attempting to connect to and traverse each access point, to determine and record a status of each access point.

The method can include controlling the radio based on the last selection of the user related to the state of the radio and on the state of the display of the wireless communication device. The method can also include turning the radio on when the user last turned the radio on and the display is turned on. The method can further include determining whether a radio connection is established and whether the radio connection is adequate when the user last turned the radio on and the display is turned off. The method can still further include leaving the radio on when the radio connection is adequate and turning the radio of for a determined interval when the radio connection is inadequate.

Abstract: Authentication and authorization of mobile devices for usage of access points in an alternative network. In an embodiment, a mobile device identifies an access point that is available to provide connectivity. A limited connection is established with the identified access point, which permits only a bandwidth exchange (BX) application to utilize a network to which the identified access point provides access. The BX application is executed to initiate authorization with a remote server over the network. After authorization has been completed, the limited connection is switched to a non-limited connection, in which other applications are permitted to utilize the network, according to terms and conditions associated with the identified access point.
