Abstract: A glove for protecting a hand is provided including a flat, first side having a hand-shaped outer perimeter having a palm portion and finger portions, and a flat second side having the hand shaped outer perimeter having a palm portion and finger portions. The second side is a mirror image of the first side. Protuberances are disposed in a pattern on each of the first side and the second side of the glove where the patterns are mirror images of one another. The glove may be used on either a left hand or a right hand of a user. When in use, the protuberances on the one side provide impact protection to the back of the user's hand, and the protuberances on the other side provide vibration damping.

Abstract: A cut resistant sweater is provided including a chest portion, sleeves, collar, and closure extending from the top edge of the collar through at least part of the chest portion. The closure includes an opening extending from the top of the collar through at least part of the chest portion, and a strip having a first part of a hook and loop fastener thereon. A second part of the hook and loop fastener is disposed on the sweater in at least two pieces, a piece adjacent to a first side of the opening and a piece adjacent to a second side of the opening. The closure is stiff relative to the collar to support the collar. A method for manufacturing the sweater includes providing a cut resistant yarn, and knitting it into a sweater in the order of cuff of first sleeve, first sleeve, body and collar, second sleeve, and cuff of the second sleeve.

Abstract: A cut resistant glove is provided having an inner surface and an outer surface wherein the inner surface is adapted for contacting a hand of a user, and the outer surface is visible while the user is wearing the glove. The glove includes a two layer knit fabric of a plaited construction including a first layer on the inner surface and a second layer on the outer surface. The outer surface is constructed from non-stretchable, cut resistant yarn, wherein the yarn has filaments that are generally parallel to one another and the inner surface is constructed from a stretchable, elastic yarn.

Abstract: Cut resistant yarns suitable for knitting gloves and sleeves and methods of making the yarns are disclosed. The yarns are made up of a bundle of continuous filaments formed of a synthetic material, e.g., polyethylene, polypropylene, nylon or polyolefin, and a stretchable yarn, e.g., Spandex® or Lycra®. The yarns are made in such a manner that when completed the continuous filaments are substantially parallel to one another and to the longitudinal axis of the yarn so that items made from them will not twist or curl up, yet will provide good resistance to cutting.
