    Abstract: A process of preparing individually-isolated, carbon-coated nanoscale metal particles is disclosed. The process is effected by sonicating a mixture of a metal carbonyl and a hydrocarbon solvent that is selected so as to polymerize during sonication. Air-stable and aqueous solution-stable, carbon-coated nanoscale metal particles and a process of preparing same are also disclosed.
