Abstract: A counterflow drum mixer producing less undesirable hydrocarbon gases and capable of more efficiently drying virgin aggregate. The drum mixer has a rotatable drum with first end receiving virgin aggregate and second end removing combined aggregate, reclaimed paving material, and mixed liquid asphalt. A burner projects into the drum from the outlet end and directs hot gases toward the inlet end. A reclaimed asphalt pavement inlet and a liquid asphalt inlet are located within the drum at a point isolated from the hot gases produced by the burner by a burner shield. When the drum mixer is operating, virgin aggregate moves down the drum toward the outlet counterflow to the drying hot gases projected toward the aggregate inlet by the burner. Reclaimed asphalt pavement is entered into the drum at a point behind the burner shield downstream (with respect to the flow of material) from the burner head producing the hot gases and is not exposed directly to those gases.
Abstract: An improved extendable screed for paving non-coplanar road surfaces with a screed having discontinuous strike plate portions which can be adjusted to define two planes of road surface. The screed is divided into two portions, each comprised of two parts reversibly held together with bolts. The portions may be lengthened by insertion of an extension section in one or both portions. A support system is provided which will allow the support arms of the screed and the pulling vehicle to be connected even though the extended screed is wider than the tractor. The screed and associated support system may be used in a method for paving non-coplanar roads by orienting the screed division-line in line with the center-line of the crown of the road while the center-line of the tractor, corresponding to the center-line of the screw-augers which distribute the paving material to the screed, is oriented with the center-line of the screed, so the augers more evenly draw paving material from each of the paver feeders.
Abstract: A mixing and delivery system for concrete or the like wherein the delivery range of a mixing auger trough is extended by two (2) delivery chutes which can be selectively deployed. The chutes are stored secured to and beneath the trough in end-to-end relation and are deployed by sliding the chutes lengthwise to extend beyond the trough. The chutes are pivotably engaged so that, in the deployed position, the distal trough may be pivoted out of deployment if it is not needed.
