Abstract: The present invention concerns the field of aquaculture or aquafarming, such as farming of fish, crustaceans and mollusks. In these fields there is still an unmet need for new modalities that can improve productivity, improve water quality and/or reduce environmental impact. The present invention resides in the finding that this can be realized by using bioavailable forms of silicic acid, typically as a fertilizer, feed additive and/or biostimulant. Experiments have shown that the use of certain bioavailable silicic acid compounds in aquaculture has a remarkable, beneficial impact on productivity and water quality, such as increased growth, increased feed conversion ratio, increased zooplankton and phytoplankton levels, improved dissolved oxygen content, favorable pH values, lower N (ammonia) levels, etc.
