  • Patent number: 4763691
Abstract: A hydraulic control valve is disclosed which is adapted to independently control the flow of hydraulic fluid to several consumer lines. The control valve includes a housing having a central bore, a pair of axially spaced apart consumer lines comunicating with the bore, a tank line communicating with the bore and positioned between the consumer lines, and a pair of hydraulic inlet lines communicating with the bore on the outer side of respective ones of the cosumer lines. A pair of slide valves are positioned in the bore, and each slide valve is supported in a neutral position by a coil spring. The two slide valves may be independently moved from their neutral position by a hydraulic control system, so that each slide valve is adapted to selectively establish communication between one of the consumer lines and the tank line, and between such consumer line and one of the hydraulic inlet lines.

  • Patent number: 4659027
Abstract: A method and apparatus for winding textile yarns into core supported packages is disclosed, and which is characterized by the ability to produce relatively large packages which are adapted to permit a high speed unwinding by withdrawal of the yarn over one end of the package. The method and apparatus involves controlling the yarn traverse guide so as to include stroke modification cycles during which the traverse stroke is progressively contracted and then increased, with the stroke modification cycles being designed to produce a precisely cylindrical package end with a uniform distribution of hardness along the package. In one illustrated embodiment, a number of stroke modification cycles having a relatively large contraction alternate with a number of stroke modification cycles having a relatively small contraction.

  • Patent number: 4645444
Abstract: A melt spinning apparatus is disclosed which is adapted for dividing a molten polymer into a plurality of streams to form synthetic filaments. The apparatus comprises a spin block assembly having two opposite sides, and two separate heating chambers disposed adjacent respective ones of the sides of the spin block assembly. The two heating chambers are interconnected by threaded members, so that the opposing surfaces of the chambers may be drawn together to clampingly engage the opposite sides of the spin block assembly therebetween. The formation of air gaps between the opposing surfaces, and which might hinder the heat transfer between the heating chamber and spin block, are thereby avoided.

  • Patent number: 4629137
Abstract: A pneumatic sensor is provided for detecting and indicating the tension in running strand material, such as yarn, wire and the like. A source of compressed air is connected to an air escape nozzle having an outlet opening in one end thereof and a closing member is supported adjacent the outlet opening and is normally spaced a predetermined distance from the outlet opening to regulate and partially restrict the escape of air therefrom. The strand engages the closing member and varies the space or gap between the closing member and the nozzle outlet in accordance with the amount of tension in the strand. A pressure gauge is provided for indicating the amount of air pressure in the pneumatic pressure system and for thereby indicating the amount of tension in the running strand.

  • Patent number: 4608814
Abstract: A method and apparatus is disclosed for producing a synthetic multifilament yarn having enhanced bulk and hand characteristics, and which is capable of high production rates. Specifically, the invention involves advancing each of at least two continuous multifilament yarn components along respective paths of travel, with a first component being advanced at a higher speed than that of a second component. Also, the second slower yarn component is guided upwardly through a liquid bath to moisten the same, while the first faster yarn component is advanced along an essentially linear path of travel and free of contact with the liquid bath, so that the degree of tension in the faster yarn component is minimized upstream of the air jet nozzle, to thereby permit full development of the loops, coils, bows or the like in the filaments thereof in the air jet nozzle.

  • Patent number: 4609344
Abstract: A yarn heating chamber is disclosed which is adapted for thermally processing an advancing yarn. The chamber comprises first and second members each having a discontinuity in the form of a groove, shoulder or the like in a surface thereof, and the members are movably mounted with respect to each other between an operative position wherein the discontinuities are positioned relative to each other to define a relatively narrow yarn passage, and a threading position defining an enlarged opening to facilitate threading. Also, heating means is provided for introducing saturated water vapor into the yarn passage in the operative position, and the surfaces of the two members are in substantial heat exchange relation in both the operative and threading positions, so that the temperature of the two members remains substantially constant during a yarn threading operation.

  • Patent number: 4602747
Abstract: The present yarn winding apparatus and method includes a yarn traversing mechanism, a pair of rotatably supported winding spindles, spaced apart main and auxiliary contact rolls, and a rotatable turret supporting said winding spindles in opposed relationship thereon. The turret rotates the winding spindles for successive movement into an operational position where one of the winding spindles is in engagement with the main contact roll and the other winding spindle is positioned out of engagement with both rolls and in position for yarn packages to be doffed therefrom. The turret also rotates the winding spindles into a yarn transfer position at which the winding spindle with full yarn packages thereon is in engagement with the auxiliary contact roll so that the yarn may be transferred from the full yarn packages to the empty tubes on the other winding spindle.
