  • Patent number: 4659027
Abstract: A method and apparatus for winding textile yarns into core supported packages is disclosed, and which is characterized by the ability to produce relatively large packages which are adapted to permit a high speed unwinding by withdrawal of the yarn over one end of the package. The method and apparatus involves controlling the yarn traverse guide so as to include stroke modification cycles during which the traverse stroke is progressively contracted and then increased, with the stroke modification cycles being designed to produce a precisely cylindrical package end with a uniform distribution of hardness along the package. In one illustrated embodiment, a number of stroke modification cycles having a relatively large contraction alternate with a number of stroke modification cycles having a relatively small contraction.

  • Patent number: 4630340
Abstract: An apparatus and method for processing a warp sheet of synthetic multifilament yarns is disclosed, and wherein the yarns may be withdrawn from supply packages and advanced along a path of travel in warp sheet form, heated and drawn while in advancing warp sheet form to orient the filaments, and then wound, for example, on a warp beam. Upon detection of a yarn break, the advance of the warp sheet is terminated, and means are provided for interrupting the application of heat to the sheet while the advance is terminated so as to avoid damage to the remaining yarns from a continued application of heat.

  • Patent number: 4608814
Abstract: A method and apparatus is disclosed for producing a synthetic multifilament yarn having enhanced bulk and hand characteristics, and which is capable of high production rates. Specifically, the invention involves advancing each of at least two continuous multifilament yarn components along respective paths of travel, with a first component being advanced at a higher speed than that of a second component. Also, the second slower yarn component is guided upwardly through a liquid bath to moisten the same, while the first faster yarn component is advanced along an essentially linear path of travel and free of contact with the liquid bath, so that the degree of tension in the faster yarn component is minimized upstream of the air jet nozzle, to thereby permit full development of the loops, coils, bows or the like in the filaments thereof in the air jet nozzle.

  • Patent number: 4609344
Abstract: A yarn heating chamber is disclosed which is adapted for thermally processing an advancing yarn. The chamber comprises first and second members each having a discontinuity in the form of a groove, shoulder or the like in a surface thereof, and the members are movably mounted with respect to each other between an operative position wherein the discontinuities are positioned relative to each other to define a relatively narrow yarn passage, and a threading position defining an enlarged opening to facilitate threading. Also, heating means is provided for introducing saturated water vapor into the yarn passage in the operative position, and the surfaces of the two members are in substantial heat exchange relation in both the operative and threading positions, so that the temperature of the two members remains substantially constant during a yarn threading operation.

  • Patent number: 4585181
Abstract: A yarn traverse apparatus is disclosed for winding a running yarn onto a rotating package, and which includes a first traverse means comprising a guide rail, and a pair of oppositely rotating arms mounted for rotation about closely adjacent parallel, or coaxial axes. A second traverse means is also provided which comprises a grooved roller positioned between the first traverse means and the yarn package being wound. In order to achieve a precise guidance of the yarn onto the package, the first yarn traverse means defines a guide stroke which extends beyond each of the ends of the traverse stroke defined by the grooved roller. In addition, the guide rail and/or the arms include means for guiding the yarn adjacent each of the ends of the guide stroke such that the yarn is free to rapidly rebound a short distance toward the center of the stroke, and is then restrained during movement through a second traverse distance.

  • Patent number: 4572234
Abstract: A hydraulic flow control valve is disclosed which is adapted for use as a pressure reducing valve, a flow control valve, or as a pressure relief valve. The valve includes a choke piston slidably mounted in a cylindrical bore for movement between a closed position closing communication between inlet and outlet channels, and an open position permitting such communication. An adjustable control system is provided for biasing the piston toward one of either its closed or open positions, and includes a constant volume flow restriction valve for providing a constant volume hydraulic flow. Downstream of the constant volume flow valve, there is provided a first branch line leading to an adjustable transducer for maintaining a selected pressure in the line, and a second parallel branch line leading to the bore in the housing for biasing the piston. Thus a selected pressure may be maintained in the second line, and thus also upon the piston, by adjustment of the transducer.

  • Patent number: 4563799
Abstract: An air jet nozzle is disclosed which is adapted for imparting entanglements to continuous filament synthetic yarns. The nozzle includes a body member having a yarn passageway therethrough, and a transverse air inlet channel which communicates with the yarn passageway. A yarn threading slot is provided along the length of the yarn passageway for permitting a running yarn to be introduced laterally into the passageway, and a closure plate is mounted so as to be disposed in and substantially close the slot at the periphery of the yarn passageway. The closure plate serves to avoid any disruption of the air currents and thus the entangling process which may otherwise be caused by the presence of the yarn threading slot.

  • Patent number: 4561244
Abstract: A method and apparatus is disclosed for producing a spun yarn composed of an inner substantially untwisted core having fibers spirally wrapped about the surface thereof. In a specifically illustrated embodiment, a yarn of staple fibers is advanced along a path of travel, while being laterally deflected by contact with each of three separate rotating discs, and so as to produce a rotating balloon which serves to open the yarn and loosen and separate fibers on the surface of the yarn. Subsequently, the advancing yarn is subjected to a false twisting operation, which serves to wrap the loosened fibers about the advancing yarn.
