    Abstract: A multi-layer ballistic woven fabric, including an upper woven layer having upper warp yarns and upper weft yarns that are interwoven together to form the upper woven layer. The multi-layer ballistic woven fabric also includes a lower woven layer having lower warp yarns and lower weft yarns that are interwoven together, and a plurality of securing yarns, each securing yarn interwoven with at least some of the upper yarns and some of the lower yarns so as to secure the upper and lower woven layers together.     Abstract: A ballistic resistant article is presented comprising a plurality of fibrous layers, each of said layers comprising a network of fibers, wherein the fibers have a strength of at least 800 mN/tex (1100 MPa) according to ASTM D 7269-07 and a matrix material, wherein the matrix material comprises a mixture comprising at least one self-crosslinking acrylic resin and/or at least one crosslinkable acrylic resin, and at least one tackifier. Compared with an article of the same construction but with a matrix material without tackifier the article according to the invention comprises a higher adhesion between the fibrous layers both in the unaged and aged state and a lower water pick up after water soak and the article passes the gasoline soak test.

    Abstract: According to some aspects, a method of manufacturing a coated multi-threat fabric, including providing a first fabric layer having a first surface, the first fabric layer having a plurality of high performance fibers, applying a first polymeric material onto the first surface of the first fabric layer, the polymeric material having a melt flow index of between about 0.7 to 1400 g/10 min, a Shore D hardness of between about 36 and 75, and ultimate tensile strength of between about 5 and 75 MPa, spreading the first polymeric material onto the first surface of the first fabric layer so as to form a raw coated fabric having a first coating layer, and heating the raw coated fabric to bond the first coating layer to the first fabric layer, wherein the first polymeric material is selected such that the coated multi-threat fabric is flexible enough to be stored on a roll of a predetermined size.

    Abstract: A method for processing a composite includes consolidating a section of a continuous length of a first feedstock together with a section of a continuous length of a second feedstock to form a consolidated section. The first feedstock is made of a first composite layer that is releasably bonded to a first release layer, and the second feedstock is made of a second composite layer that is releasably bonded to a second release layer. The first release layer is then separated from the consolidated section and from a portion of the first composite layer a distance beyond an edge of the consolidated section. The first composite layer is then cut within the distance beyond the edge to release the consolidated section from the remaining continuous length of the first feedstock.

    Abstract: A ballistic composite comprises multiple layers of a fabric having unidirectional ballistic resistant yarns in at least two layers and a resin layer between each pair of such multiple layers adhered to the ballistic resistant yarns but not encapsulation the same and not penetrating the layer of fabric. The ballistic yarn layers are at 90°±5° with respect to each other and the ballistic resistant yarns are stabilized by being woven in a second fabric. The second fabric is formed of yarns having a substantially lower tenacity and tensile modulus than the ballistic resistant yarn. The ballistic resistant yarns have a tenacity of at least about 15 grams per denier and a modulus of at least about 40 grams per denier. The resin in the resin layer has a modulus of at least about 7000 psi.
