Abstract: Diarylide yellow pigment compositions comprising the reaction product of tetrazotized 3,3'-dichlorobenzidine coupled into an acetoacetarylide, and, a ketimine formed by the reaction of a primary amine and an acetoacetarylide. The ketimine-containing diarylide yellow pigment compositions have improved color strength, improved transparency and contain essentially no free primary amine. Printing inks manufactured with the diarylide yellow pigment compositions of this invention have increased color strength, increased transparency, decreased degradation of publication gravure ink vehicles and decreased acidic fountain solution emulsification in offset ink printing processes.

Abstract: Flame retardant intumescent polyisocyanurate rigid foams are prepared by trimerizing isocyanate-terminated quasi-prepolymers containing predominately urethane linkages prepared by reacting an organic polyisocyanate with polyester polyols derived from the transesterification of dimethyl terephthalate process residue. The solvent blown rigid polyisocyanurate foams have exceptionally low friability.

Abstract: D,1-alpha-tocopherol can be prepared by reacting trimethylhydroquinone and a phytyl derivative such as phytol or isophytol in the presence of a Lewis acid, a strong acid and an amine salt of a non-oxidizing protic acid.
Abstract: The invention relates to functional fluid concentrates and functional fluids which can be prepared by mixing the concentrates with water. The functional fluids can be used in hydraulic systems or as metalworking compositions to cool and lubricate surfaces which are in frictional contact during operations such as the turning, cutting, peeling, or grinding of metals. The functional fluid concentrate comprises:(a) a cloud point raising metal dialkyldithiophosphate additive having the following structural formula: ##STR1## wherein R.sub.1, R.sub.2, R.sub.3, and R.sub.4 are individually linear or branched alkyl, alkenyl, aryl, arylalkyl and alkylaryl groups having from 1 to 24 carbon atoms; and M is selected from the group consisting of Zn, Sb, Sn, Mg, and Mn; preferably Zn or Sb;(b) a polyether nonionic surfactant; and(c) an associative polyether thickener.Preferably the concentrate also contains a linear or branched alkanolamine having 2 to 10 carbon atoms.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a process for preparing transparent iron oxide pigments comprising reacting an iron compound, an ammonia releasing compound and water in a non-aqueous solvent in which both the iron compound and the ammonia-releasing compound have appreciable solubility. The reaction is performed by refluxing this composition. Where a red pigment is desired, a high boiling alcohol may be employed whereby the refluxing is carried out above 200.degree. C. which thus converts the pigment to a red iron oxide pigment during the reflux step. In order to get a metallic finish, aluminum flake pigment may be added to a mixture of the iron compound and solvent prior to addition of the ammonia-releasing salt.
Abstract: An apparatus for purifying copper phthalocyanine pigment in a continuous process without the use of acid. This apparatus comprises a container for preparing a slurry of said pigment in water, a pump and a conduit for conducting the slurry from the container to the inlet of the pump, a first heating apparatus capable of heating the slurry to a temperature of at least about 75.degree. C., a conduit for conducting the slurry from the pump to the first heating apparatus, a thin film pressure filter, and a conduit for conducting the slurry from the first heating apparatus to the thin film pressure filter. The apparatus is arranged such that the temperature of the slurry passing through the thin film pressure filter is close to the exit temperature of the slurry from the first heating apparatus. A product outlet is provided for the filter and a control valve is positioned in the product outlet.
