Abstract: The invention relates to a basecoat/clearcoat process in which the basecoat composition used contains as a film former a polyurethane resin which can be prepared by preparing an intermediate from(A) a mixture obtained from 10 to 90 mol % of linear polyether diols and 90 to 10 mol % of polyester diols,(B) diisocyanates,(C) compounds which contain two groups reactive toward isocyanate groups, at least some of these compounds having at least one group capable of forming anions, and the free isocyanate groups of the said intermediate are then reacted with(D) polyols containing at least three hydroxyl groups, and the reaction product obtained in this manner is transferred into an aqueous base, whereina) the polyester diol is prepared from diols and an acid component which consists of 60 to 100% by weight of aliphatic dicarboxylic acids of more than 18 carbon atoms and of 40 to 0% by weight of aliphatic dicarboxylic acids of 2 to 18 carbon atoms,b) the equivalent ratio of the NCO groups to the total of the OH groups

Abstract: A process for removing from electrocoating baths impurities which cause surface defects. The invention relates to a process for removing from electrocoating baths impurities which cause surface defects, wherein the electrocoating paint, in addition to the purification operations which are already conventional, is filtered without pressure through an adsorbent which adsorbs hydrophobic substances having a surface tension.ltoreq.35 mN/m--preferably homopolymers or copolymers of ethylene, propylene, but-1-ene or but-2-ene, which, if appropriate, contain further nonpolar comonomers.

Abstract: Soluble acrylate copolymer containing carboxyl groups, processes for its preparation and coating agents based on the acrylate copolymer. The invention relates to a a soluble acrylate copolymer which can be obtained by copolymerization of more than 3 to 30% by weight, based on the total weight of all the monomers, of a monomer with at least 2 polymerizable, olefinically unsaturated double bonds, monomers which carry functional groups and other monomers with a polymerizable double bond, the acid number of the acrylate resin being 15 to 200. The invention furthermore relates to processes for the preparation of the acrylate copolymers and coatings based thereon and based on polyepoxides.
Abstract: The invention relates to water-dilutable binders for cationic electrocoating finishes. For the preparation of the binders, a di-epoxide compound, together with at least one mono-epoxide compound if desired, is converted by a polyaddition, carried out at 100.degree. to 195.degree. C. and initiated by a monofunctionally reacting initiator carrying either an alcoholic OH group, a phenolic OH group or an SH group, to form an epoxy resin which then subsequently is modified with(A) primary and/or secondary amines or their salts and/or the salt of a tertiary amine, a sulfide/acid mixture or a phosphine/acid mixture and with, if desired,(B) a polyfunctional alcohol, a polycarboxylic acid, a polysulfide or a polyphenol.
