Abstract: The present invention relates to a powder coating, in particular for internal coating of packaging containers, which is characterized in that it1.) comprises at least one epoxy resin having an epoxide equivalent weight of from 300 to 5500 and at least one hardener having more than one phenolic hydroxyl group per molecule and a hydroxyl equivalent weight, based on the phenolic OH groups, of from 100 to 500, and2.) has a particle size distribution such that at least 90 percent by weight of the powder coating particles have a particle size of between 1 and 60 .mu.m, the maximum particle size of the powder coating particles is .ltoreq.100 .mu.m, the mean particle size of the powder coating particles is between 5 and 20 .mu.m and the gradient of the particle distribution curve at the point of inflexion is .gtoreq.100.

Abstract: The invention relates to a process for the production of two-coat finishes, in which a pigmented basecoat is first applied, the resulting basecoat film is coated with a powder clearcoat, and basecoat and clearcoat are subsequently baked together. In accordance with the invention, the powder clearcoat employed is a powder coating which contains an epoxide group-containing polyacrylate resin as binder and a mixture of (A) a polyanhydride and (B) a carboxyl group-containing polyester resin as crosslinking agent. The polyester resin can be prepared by reacting a diol (b1), a compound (b2) which contains per molecule at least three functional groups selected from hydroxyl, primary amino, secondary amino, carboxyl and acid anhydride groups, and (b3) a dicarboxylic acid in a molar ratio of (b1): (b2): (b3)=0.0 to 3.0: 1.0: 1.5 to 9.0 to give a polyester resin having an acid value of 40 to 300.

Abstract: Coating compositions and processes for coating wood and wood materials are described. The compositions comprise a first component comprising at least one reactive thinner and at least one unsaturated polyester, and a second component comprising a curing catalyst. The unsaturated polyester of the first component is the reaction product of: (a) a mixture of at least one saturated aliphatic dicarboxylic acid with 6 to 10 carbon atoms and at least one ethylenically unsaturated aliphatic dicarboxylic acid selected from maleic acid, fumaric acid, itaconic acid, citraconic acid, and mixtures thereof; (b) a diol component consisting of at least one of 1,4-dimethylolcyclohexane and substituted dimethylolcyclohexanes, with up to 50 mol % monomeric or oligomeric glycol, based on total moles of the diol component; and (c) up to 10 mol % of a polyol, based on total moles of polyester reactants. The compositions and processes of the invention result in coatings with improved hardness and aged cold crack resistance.
Abstract: (A) being a photosensitive relief-forming layer in which imagewise exposure to actinic light results in different solubilities of the exposed and unexposed parts, and this layer consists of a mixture of:(a1)one or more polymeric binders,(a2)one or more photopolymerization initiators,(a3)one or more organic compounds which are compatible with the binder (a1) and contain photopolymerizable olefinically unsaturated groups and, if required,(a4)one or more assistants,(B) being a smooth or dull, nontacky release layer (B) which is transparent to light, soluble or swellable in the relevant liquid media and formed by a polymer forming strong films and additives contained therein, and(C) being a cover sheet which can be detached from the release layer (B), the release layer (B) containing a metal salt as an additive,is suitable for the production of printing plates.

Abstract: The invention relates to a process for the production of two-coat finishes, in which a pigmented aqueous basecoat is applied, the basecoat obtained is coated over with a clearcoat, and basecoat and clearcoat are baked together.
