Patent number: 5494159Abstract: A container for a tape cassette of approximately parallelepiped form having an elevated head part is formed with a bottom wall and a lid wall which can move with respect to each other by means of hinge devices. In this arrangement, if appropriate, one of said walls is provided with a pocket for receiving the elevated head part and has a decreasing wall thickness along its transverse axis from its outer longitudinal edge in the direction of the axis of the hinge devices or of the pocket. The other wall may likewise have a wall thickness decreasing in the same direction. The inner face of the wall provided with the pocket may also be arranged parallel, at least with respect to the inner face of the front wall of the pocket. The container can be used advantageously for any cassette of the type more precisely specified above for audio, video and/or data recording, since a minimal overall height of the container is achieved with minimal use of material.Type: GrantFiled: August 19, 1994Date of Patent: February 27, 1996Assignee: BASF Magnetics GmbHInventor: Klaus Schoettle

Patent number: 5490476Abstract: An apparatus for checking deep-frozen food, which irreversibly indicates if an additional storage temperature has been exceeded, is described. A flat plastic bag having transparent walls, into which eutectic mixture having a liquid/solid phase transition in the range from 0.degree. to -50.degree. C. has been introduced, together with a magnetic dispersion consisting of finely divided magnetic pigments, has a heat-conducting connection to the material to be frozen. A magnetic stripe which contains a magnetically recorded pattern and which remains connected to the bag until the indicating apparatus together with the material to be frozen has been cooled below the limiting temperature is stuck to the bag. The magnetic stripe is then removed. If the permissible limiting temperature is exceeded, the optically or magnetically readable structure produced by the magnetic stripe in the indicator bag is eliminated, permitting easy checking of the deep-frozen food.Type: GrantFiled: August 8, 1994Date of Patent: February 13, 1996Assignee: BASF Magnetics GmbHInventors: Ronald J. Patent number: 5484628Abstract: Acicular cobalt-containing magnetic iron oxides having a high coercive force and a core/shell structure and hence low temperature dependence of the coercive force are prepared by a process in which, in a first stage, surface activation is effected by means of iron(II) and cobalt ions under alkaline conditions on the iron oxide core under an inert gas atmosphere and thereafter, in a second stage, an epitactic coating of cobalt ferrite is applied, which coating is formed oxidatively from iron (II) and cobalt (II) hydroxide, likewise under alkaline reaction conditions. The total amount of cobalt ions used for doping remains unchanged compared with the known doped iron oxides or is even smaller. In the second process stage, the achievable coercive force can be controlled by the proportion of air in the gas mixture during the formation of the epitactic coating.Type: GrantFiled: August 16, 1994Date of Patent: January 16, 1996Assignee: BASF Magnetics GmbHInventors: Ekkehard Schwab, Ronald J. Patent number: 5477406Abstract: A pressure device for recording media in tape form, in particular magnetic tapes, has at least one pressure element and comprises a support element. When the device is actuated by the head coming to bear, a deflection of the device takes place, and a pressing against the recording medium is effected automatically by at least one extension of the support element, this pressing ending automatically when the head is no longer in bearing contact. The bearing pressure may take place directly on the tape rear side or tape front side, or else indirectly on the tape front side or the tape rear side or both sides simultaneously. Pressing and/or antifriction and/or cleaning elements may also be arranged, at least partially, fixed in place with respect to the tape. The invention can be used in the case of all cassettes, film and magnetic-tape systems.Type: GrantFiled: February 4, 1994Date of Patent: December 19, 1995Assignee: BASF Magnetic GmbHInventors: Norbert Schaeffer, Klaus Schoettle, Reinhard Stransky, Klaus Goetz
