Abstract: A thermal dimensionally stable RIM polyurethane elastomer prepared by reacting an organic polyisocyanate, a polyoxyalkylene polyether polyol, and ethylene glycol wherein the reactants have a free-water content of less than 0.10 percent based on 100 parts of polyol plus glycol.
Abstract: The present invention relates to the use, as a hydraulic fluid or metalworking lubricant, of compositions having water as a base and yet possessing superior lubricating and wear preventing characteristics. The fluids of the invention comprise (1) a sulfurized molybdenum or antimony compound and (2) a phosphate ester or salt thereof. The compositions can be thickened, if desired, using for instance polyglycol, polyacrylic and polyvinyl alcohol-type thickeners. The use of corrosion inhibitors, metal deactivators and other adjuvants conventional in this art is also contemplated.

Abstract: Water-based hydraulic fluids and metalworking lubricants are disclosed which are thickened with a polyether polyol having a molecular weight of about 1000 to about 75,000 modified with an alpha-olefin epoxide having about 12 to about 18 carbon atoms. Unexpectedly, synergistic thickening results from a combination of said polyether polyol with the components of a water-based hydraulic fluid or metalworking lubricant. The particularly effective components of the hydraulic fluid or metalworking lubricant are the phosphate ester and water-soluble amine corrosion inhibitor components. The hydraulic fluid and metalworking fluids of the invention also contain a water-soluble polyoxyethylated ester of an aliphatic acid and a monohydric or polyhydric aliphatic alcohol, either one or both said acid and said alcohol being polyoxyethylated, a sulfurized molybdenum or antimony compound and a metal deactivator as well as other adjuvants conventional in this art.

Abstract: The invention relates to polyurethane coatings prepared from the reaction products of a polyester or polyether, a hydroxyl compound containing acetylenic or ethylenic unsaturation and an organic polyisocyanate.
Abstract: Polyether-based thickeners for aqueous systems having molecular weights of about 1000 to about 75,000 which are modified with alpha-olefin epoxides having about 12 to about 18 carbon atoms exhibit increased thickening efficiency in the presence of certain organic additives. These are ethoxylated phosphate esters or mixtures of said esters with water-soluble amines. The polyethers contain about 1 to about 20 percent by weight based upon the weight of the polyether of an alpha-olefin oxide. Polyether-based thickeners containing at least one of an ethoxylated phosphate ester, or said ester in admixture with a water-soluble amine, processes for the preparation of thickened aqueous systems, and thickened aqueous compositions are disclosed. The polyether-based thickeners of the invention are particularly useful for thickening water or water-glycol mixtures which are useful as hydraulic fluids.
Abstract: A flame-retardant, antistatic synthetic polymeric fiber which is the product of the process of dispersing in said fiber about 1 percent to about 12 percent by weight of a polymer composition which is the reaction product of a polyester of a polyoxyalkylene compound having as a nucleus a nitrogen-containing reactive hydrogen containing compound with a reactant selected from the group consisting of at least one of an aliphatic or aromatic diacid, anhydride or acid halide thereof and a diol wherein at least one of said reactant is halogenated.

Abstract: An improved process for the preparation of higher unsaturated ketones, such as geranylacetone and farnesylacetone, by reacting a .beta.,.gamma.-unsaturated alcohol and an alkyl acetoacetate at an elevated temperature in the presence of an organic aluminum compound, with elimination, and removal, of the alcohol derived from the alkyl acetoacetate in a reactor system carrying a fractionating column. The improvement in the purity, yield, and especially space-time yield of the product is achieved by starting from an alcohol having a higher boiling point than that of the alkyl acetoacetate used, carrying out the reaction in the presence of a small amount of an inert liquid which has a boiling point between that of the alkyl acetoacetate and the alcohol to be eliminated therefrom, and ensuring that the temperature at the bottom of the fractionating column is only slightly higher than the boiling point of the added liquid, under the prevailing pressure.
