Following neutralization with alkali, the dispersion serves as associative thickener, in particular for liquid detergent and cleaner formulations. The thickeners are characterized by high transparency and high thickening effect coupled with high shear dilution.
Abstract: A catalyst for gas phase oxidations comprises an inert support and a catalytically active material which comprises vanadium oxide and titanium dioxide and has been applied thereto. The titanium dioxide has a content of sulfur compounds, calculated as S, of less than 1000 ppm and a content of calcium compounds, calculated as Ca, of less than 150 ppm. The catalyst has a relatively high activity and/or selectivity and thus enables relatively high yields of the desired target product, for example phthalic anhydride. Also described is a process for preparing phthalic anhydride, wherein a gas stream which comprises molecular oxygen and o-xylene, naphthalene or mixtures thereof is contacted with the catalyst.

Abstract: The present invention generally relates to colloidal systems, which may include colloidal particles and/or other types of particles. One aspect of the invention is generally directed to a system comprising fluidic droplets that can be at least partially solidified, e.g., to form colloidal particles. In some embodiments, particles comprising an at least partially solid outer phase encapsulating an inner phase are formed. The inner phase may be any phase, e.g., a solid, a liquid, or a gas. In some cases, solidifying at least a portion of the outer phase of the droplets to form particles may increase the stability of the particles and/or the colloidal system containing the particles. In one set of embodiments, melting or liquefying the outer phase of the particles (for example, by heating the particle to a temperature above a threshold temperature) can allow release of an agent contained within the inner phase, and/or allow the inner phase to coalesce with a phase external to the particles.

Abstract: A transparent, semi-interpenetrating network comprises a first phase of a linear noncrosslinked isobutene polymer and a second phase of a crosslinked polymer. The crosslinked polymer is obtained through copolymerization of a first ethylenically unsaturated monomer and of a second ethylenically unsaturated monomer, wherein the first ethylenically unsaturated monomer is a cycloalkyl(meth)acrylate and the second ethylenically unsaturated monomer is selected from linear and branched C1-C20 alkyl(meth)acrylates. By varying the ratio of the first ethylenically unsaturated monomer relative to the second ethylenically unsaturated monomer, the properties, such as vibration damping properties, of the semi-interpenetrating network can be controlled.

Abstract: Described is a polymer film with multiphase film morphology. The polymer film, within a layer, has regions of a first polymer and regions of a second polymer, and is prepared from an aqueous polymer dispersion, comprising the two polymers in dispersed form and a tackifier. The glass transition temperature of the second polymer is greater than that of the first polymer and less than 20° C. The concentration of the tackifier in the polymer film is greater in the regions of the first polymer than in the regions of the second polymer. Described also are polymer dispersions for producing polymer films with multiphase film morphology, and also applications as adhesive, coating or sealant, as for example for producing self-adhesive paper labels.

Abstract: A process for the preparation of aqueous polymer dispersions is described, a vinylaromatic compound, such as, for example, styrene, a conjugated aliphatic diene, such as, for example, butadiene, and an ethylenically unsaturated carbonitrile, such as, for example, acrylonitrile, being copolymerized in an aqueous medium. The copolymerization is effected in the presence of a degraded starch and of free radical initiators. At least part of the monomers differing from ethylenically unsaturated carbonitriles are polymerized before the ethylenically unsaturated carbonitriles are added to the polymerization mixture.
