  • Patent number: 7503264
Abstract: A side bearing assembly for a railway vehicle includes a cage, a cap coupled to and moveable relative to the cage, and an insulator disposed between the cage and the cap. The railway vehicle includes a bolster extending laterally and a car body disposed on the bolster. The cage is attached to the bolster and the cap supports a portion of the car body such that the side bearing assembly is disposed between the bolster and the car body to dampen lateral pivoting of the car body relative to the bolster. The insulator is formed of microcellular polyurethane for resiliently deforming and storing energy during compressive movement between the car body and the bolster through a range of temperatures between ?40° C. and 80 ° C. Microcellular polyurethane maintains flexibility at this temperature range such that the side bearing assembly maintains its ability to dampen lateral pivoting through this temperature range.

  • Patent number: 7504523
Abstract: A uretonimine-modified isocyanate composition has reduced color. The uretonimine-modified isocyanate composition comprises a polyisocyanate composition having two or more isocyanate groups and comprising 4,4?-diphenylmethane diisocyanate (MDI) and a catalyst for catalyzing a reaction of the isocyanate groups to form carbodiimides available for forming uretonimines and uretonimine oligomers. A first quenching agent partially quenches the reaction of the isocyanate groups to inhibit formation of the carbodiimides thereby inhibiting additional formation of uretonimines and uretonimine oligomers and a second quenching agent different than the first quenching agent quenches the reaction of the isocyanate groups to further inhibit formation of the carbodiimides thereby further inhibiting additional formation of uretonimines and uretonimine oligomers. A method of forming the uretonimine-modified isocyanate composition is also disclosed.

  • Publication number: 20090066958
Abstract: The invention relates to a process for determining the total oxygen content and the total carbon content in ammonia, in which ammonia is first split into nitrogen and hydrogen, then the oxygen still present in the ammonia is reacted essentially fully with hydrogen to give water and the carbon still present is reacted essentially fully with hydrogen to give methane. In a next step, the water content and the methane content in the gas are determined. Finally, the total oxygen content is determined from the water content and the total carbon content from the methane content. The invention further relates to an apparatus for performing the process, which comprises a cracker for splitting the ammonia and for converting the oxygen- and/or carbon-comprising compounds, and at least one cavity ring-down spectrometer for detecting the water content and/or carbon content.
