Abstract: A shaft encoder arrangement (1) provides high precision and at the same time can be used in harsh environments and is simple to mount. The shaft encoder arrangement (1) has at least one measuring device (2) for determining a rotary position of a rotatable body, for example, of a shaft (4) of a motor (6), with at least one magnetic dimensional scale (7) that can be mounted on the body and at least one sensor device (8) for scanning the magnetic dimensional scale (7). The sensor device (8) lies at least partially within a space (14) enclosed by the magnetic dimensional scale (7), and the magnetic dimensional scale (7) is enclosed by a circumferential magnetic shield (12). The magnetic shield permits use of the shaft encoder arrangement (1) even in harsh environments and even in strong magnetic interference fields.

Abstract: The invention relates to a rotary encoder comprising internal error control with a monitoring unit comprising at least a computing module, a verification means, a memory unit and an alarm unit. The invention also relates to a method for checking a rotary encoder when said encoder is in operation, the rotary encoder generating at least one measuring signal pair representative of the amount of rotation. In order to be able to determine the functioning of the rotary encoder, even when said rotary encoder is stationary, it is provided according to the present invention that a characteristic value should be created in the monitoring unit from current amplitude values of the measuring signal pair, said characteristic value being used in a comparison with at least one quality value representative of the functional states of the rotary encoder.

Abstract: An absolute value transducer (1) for determining an absolute position (P) of a body (6), with a measured material element (5), as well as a process for determining the absolute position (P) of two bodies (3, 4, 6) in relation to one another. In order to be able to use the absolute value transducer (1) in as flexible a manner as possible and to detect mounting errors of the measured material element (5), provisions are made according to the present invention for a code (K) of the measured material element (5) to have a discontinuity (9) in its course and for the code (K) to be scanned outside the discontinuity for determining the absolute position (P) within the discontinuity (9), and for the scanned absolute values (W) to be combined with an offset value (A).
