  • Publication number: 20080264450
Abstract: A first fluid connector is provided for selective interconnection to and fluid transfer with a second fluid connector. The first connector comprises a fluid passageway, an internal member and an outer collar supportably disposed about the internal member for selective advancement and retraction relative thereto. At least a portion of the fluid passageway may extend through the internal member. The outer collar may be selectively retracted to facilitate cleaning of the internal member. In some embodiments, the outer collar and internal member may be disposed so that a distal portion of the internal member is substantially flush with or a distal portion of internal member projects beyond a distal end of the outer collar when the outer collar is in a retracted position relative thereto. To facilitate cleaning, a distal end or distal portion of the internal member may be substantially closed when the first and second connectors are disconnected.

  • Publication number: 20080256903
Abstract: An inventive method, system and apparatus are provided for syringe handling, and more particularly, for syringe labeling, filling and capping operations. To facilitate syringe handling, an inventive apparatus includes a plurality of syringe bodies interconnected in a predetermined orientation by a belt. Such belt may be of pliable construction and may define a predetermined spacing in between adjacent ones of the syringe bodies, such predetermined spacing corresponding with a distance between holders provided in a handling apparatus. The syringe handling apparatus may provide for the placement of contents-related information on belt segments between adjacent syringe bodies and for separating the belt segments, wherein a flap is left interconnected to each syringe body. The syringe handling apparatus may alternatively or also provide for automated filling of the syringe bodies wherein cap removal, filling and cap replacement operations are completed free from manual handling.

  • Patent number: 7316669
Abstract: An improved protective cap and method for capping medical male luer fittings is provided. The protective cap may include inner and intermediate annular members extending from an end wall and defining a slot therebetween. At least one and preferably a plurality of depressible members project from an outer surface of the inner annular member, wherein the depressible member(s) conforms to the internal threads of a male luer fitting upon interconnection. For such purposes, the depressible member(s) may comprise a resilient material, e.g. most preferably having a modulus of elasticity of between about 5000 psi and 20000 psi. Each depressible member may be of an arcuate configuration in cross-section to present a convex surface for depressible engagement by the collar of a male luer fitting when positioned in the annular slot. The protective cap may be readily employed in automated capping/uncapping procedures via direct linear advancement/retraction relative to a male luer fitting.

  • Patent number: 7081109
Abstract: The present invention provides an inventive apparatus and method for docking of a male luer connector fluidly interconnected or interconnectable to a medical liquid source during one or repeated periods. As such, the invention has particular application to multiple-dose medication therapy procedures. The docking apparatus comprises a holding receptacle having a single access opening and a depressible member disposed in the holding receptacle. The holding receptacle is adapted for retentive engagement with a male luer connector (e.g. via complementary threading), wherein upon docking a nozzle of the male luer connector is isolated within the holding receptacle. An anti-bacterial material may be readily applied to a top surface of the depressible member prior to docking so that the forward edge of the nozzle of the male luer connector contacts the anti-bacterial material when docked. The docking apparatus may be provided with lateral and rearward handling members to facilitate docking procedures.

  • Patent number: 4317448
Abstract: An adapter for connecting in fluid communication a liquid dispensing syringe with the interior of a bottle containing a liquid, such as a liquid medication, includes a tubular body member composed of resilient material and being generally cylindrical in shape to fit snugly within the mouth of the bottle. Projections or beads are provided on the body member for engaging the inside surface of the bottle thereof in a continuous line of engagement therewith with a high pressure per unit area of engagement. An opening extends axially through the body member for receiving the nozzle of the syringe, and the opening includes a forward nozzle receiving portion and a rear portion. The axial length of the forward portion is substantially the same as the axial length of the nozzle so that the exit end of the nozzle terminates at the rear enlarged portion when the nozzle is inserted fully within the opening.

  • Patent number: 4303071
Abstract: An adapter for the mouth of a container, such as a bottle of liquid medication, includes a body member adapted to fit sealingly into the mouth of the container, body member having a central aperture for receiving the nozzle of a syringe-type medication dispenser. In one embodiment of the invention, the body member includes a vent hole and a downwardly depending tube adapted to extend into the container to enable liquids to be drawn from deep containers without inverting them. A valve device retains the liquid in the tube near the body member. The valve is in the form of a flexible web extending transversely across the central aperture, the web having a slit or opening therein for receiving the nozzle of the dispenser to enable it to extend axially therethrough to gain access to the liquid medication disposed within the container.
