Abstract: A class of fluorescent rare earth chelates and the ligands upon which they are based whose molecular structure incorporates a plurality of substituted arylpyridine diacid units attached to a central template structure is disclosed. These ligands function as efficient energy transfer groups in fluorescent tagging reagents and tracers.
Abstract: A method and apparatus for assaying the sensitivity of biopsied tumor cells to chemotherapeutic agents using a predetermined amount of chemotherapeutic agent in an easily deliverable form is disclosed and claimed.
Abstract: A process to determine the concentration of any substance in a colorimetric, turbidimetric or nephelometric reaction using a fluorometric detector to measure fluorescence intensity. In particular, a change in color can be monitored by observing the measurement of fluorescence intensity of a fluorophore in an inert matrix. The absorption spectrum of the chromophore may overlap the excitation and/or emission spectrum of the fluorophore, thereby allowing the change in fluorescence to be related to the intensity of color in the reaction and thus related to the quantity of the substance of interest.

Abstract: This invention provides a novel process of producing magnetically responsive polymer particles comprising polymeric core particles coated evenly with a layer of polymer containing magnetically responsive metal oxide. A wide variety of polymeric particles with sizes ranging from 1 to 100 microns can be used a core particles and transformed into magnetically responsive polymer particles. The surface of these magnetically responsive polymer particles can be coated further with another layer of functionalized polymer. These magnetically responsive polymer particles can be used for passive or covalent coupling of biological material such as antigens, antibodies, enzymes of DNA/RNA hybridization and used as solid phase for various types of immunoassays, DNA/RNA hybridization probes assays, affinity purification, cell separation and other medical, diagnostic, and industrial applications.

Abstract: Aqueous solutions containing buffers and electrolytes are adjusted to levels required for calibration of both blood gas analyzers and ion selective electrolyte analyzers. A control material, composed of similar matrix, is adjusted to three levels of blood gas and electrolyte conditions. These quality control materials are used to monitor blood gas/electrolyte laboratory instrumentation.
Abstract: A testing module is provided having units which can be arranged seriatim to provide narrow through passageways linked to each other for quantitative determination of analytes passing through the units as by electrical testing with electrodes. Auxiliary passageways are preferably used in one unit to allow flushing of a first sample chamber without contamination from a second sample chamber. An electrode holder carries a membrane backed by a gel to aid in electrically linking the membrane to an electrode and to support the membrane in a substantially planar condition in use.
