Patent number: 7097995Abstract: A chemiluminescent substrate of a hydrolytic enzyme having the following general Formula I is disclosed, as follows: Lumi-M-PFormula I where “Lumi” is a chemiluminescent moiety capable of producing light (a) by itself, (b) with MP attached and (c) with M attached. Examples of Lumi include chemiluminescent acridinium compounds, benzacridinium compounds, quinolinium compounds, isoquinolinium compounds, phenanthridinium compounds, and lucigenin compounds, spiroacridan compounds, luminol compounds and isoluminol compounds. M is a multivalent heteroatom having at least one lone pair of electrons selected from oxygen, nitrogen and sulfur, directly attached to the light emitting moiety of Lumi at one end and to P at the other end. P is a group that can be readily removed by hydrolytic enzymes. An enzymatic reaction utilizing the above compound is the following: where HE is a hydrolytic enzyme. Lumi-M is a chemiluminescent product having physical and/or chemical properties different from those of Lumi-M-P.Type: GrantFiled: August 27, 2004Date of Patent: August 29, 2006Assignee: Bayer Corp.Inventors: Qingping Jiang, Anand Natrajan, David J. Patent number: 5857784Abstract: A method for detecting image position errors, includes forming a first pattern with a symbol embedded therein and a second pattern which, when superpositioned on the first pattern, exposes the symbol if the misalignment between the first and second patterns exceeds a position error tolerance. The symbol is perceivable with the unaided eye even if the misalignment is imperceivable to the unaided eye.Type: GrantFiled: January 28, 1997Date of Patent: January 12, 1999Assignee: Bayer Corp. Patent number: 5818626Abstract: An optical isolator and circular polarizer are used in combination to optically isolate specular and diffuse reflections which result when a forward traveling radiation beam encounters an optical or non-optical boundary surface. The forward traveling radiation beam is linearly polarized with a linear polarizer such that its plane of linear polarization is aligned with a first polarization axis, then the axis of linear polarization is rotated to a second polarization axis with a polarization rotator and finally the linearly polarized forward traveling beam is circularly polarized with a quarter wave retarder.Type: GrantFiled: August 29, 1994Date of Patent: October 6, 1998Assignee: Agfa Division, Bayer Corp.Inventors: Brian L. Engstrom, Siu-Yan B. Ng

Patent number: 5773305Abstract: The method of diluting a fluid sample for analysis in a sample analysis system includes the provision of an aspiration probe with two interior sections. The first interior section of the probe has a first diameter and is proximate the aspiration opening of the probe. The second interior section of the probe has a second diameter of greater magnitude than the first diameter and is located distally of the first section. The probe aspirates in consecutive order selected amounts of fluid sample and diluent into the first interior section of the probe. The fluid sample and diluent are mixed in the second interior section of the probe by moving the sample and diluent back and forth in the second interior section a predetermined number of times. The back and forth movement of diluent and fluid sample in the second interior section of the probe provides substantially uniform mixing of the sample and diluent. The use of a Teflon.RTM.Type: GrantFiled: May 2, 1996Date of Patent: June 30, 1998Assignee: Bayer Corp.Inventors: George E. Zabetakis, Paul Gherson

Patent number: 5768001Abstract: An inclined mirror is provided in a cylindrical housing which has an open end and a closed end. An optical planar glass plate or window is mounted at the open end of the cylindrical housing. A laser beam enters the housing through the window and is reflected off the inclined mirror. The reflected beam leaves the housing through a side aperture in the housing. The cylindrical housing is rotated to scan the beam through a range of angles. Rotation of this optical system induces astigmatism in the beam due to the deformation of the inclined mirror at high rotational speed. If the window is tilted so that the entering laser beam is no longer normal to the window surface, then the window will induce a degree of astigmatism in the laser beam. The angular position of the window can be adjusted relative to the inclined mirror, thus compensating for the dynamic astigmatism due to rotation.Type: GrantFiled: June 10, 1996Date of Patent: June 16, 1998Assignees: Agfa Division, Bayer Corp., Westwind Air Bearings, Ltd.Inventors: Henry A. Patent number: 5655452Abstract: The primary function of the optional handler is to make plates available on demand to the imaging engine. A multitude of plates are stored inside cassettes and these cassettes are loaded into the handler. There may be up to four cassettes residing in the handler. Inside a cassette there may be a protective interleaf sheet, sometimes called a slip sheet, between each plate which is removed by the handler and discarded. The handler receives commands from the engine control sequencer which provides instructions as to what cassette needs to be accessed to make a plate available to the picker mechanism so the plate may be conveyed to the imaging engine. Conversely the handler provides status information to the engine to make full interaction with the system possible.Type: GrantFiled: August 7, 1996Date of Patent: August 12, 1997Assignee: AGFA Division, Bayer Corp.Inventors: Laurence S. Blake, Philip A. Rombult, Libor Krupica, David B. Larsen, James C. Folsom, Ross A. Freeman, Roger A. Jacques, Robert S. Ring, Gerald L. Smith

Patent number: 5626231Abstract: A pallet assembly for supporting and protecting a load during transportation of the load. The pallet comprises two elongated members spaced apart and oriented substantially parallel so as to be located on opposite sides of the load. A plurality of support members support the load with a clearance space between the support members and the ground. The support members are removably attached to the two elongated members. An adjusting mechanism adjusts the support members relative to the two elongated members to lower the support members toward the ground and reduce the clearance space between the support members and the ground.Type: GrantFiled: November 27, 1995Date of Patent: May 6, 1997Assignee: AGFA Division, Bayer Corp.Inventors: Cyril P. Kwong, Mark E. Tellam, Gregg R. King, Viwanna Buck
