Abstract: The present invention provides a process for quenching a gaseous reaction mixture during the phosgenation of diamines in the gas phase to produce diisocyanates. The gaseous reaction mixture contains at least a diisocyanate, phosgene and hydrogen chloride. The quenching liquid is injected into the gas mixture continuously flowing out of a cylindrical reaction zone into the downstream cylindrical quenching zone with the aid of at least two spray nozzles which are arranged at the entrance to the quenching zone at equal distances along the circumference of the quenching zone.

Abstract: Reagents that regulate human ceramide kinase protein activity and reagents that bind to human ceramide kinase gene products can be used to regulate intracellular signaling and consequently cell proliferation and apoptosis. Such regulation is particularly useful for treating allergies including but not limited to asthma, autoimmune diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis, inflammatory disease, transplant rejection, and cancer, particularly lymphocytic leukemias, and could be a useful target of vaccination enhancing adjuvants. Central and peripheral nervous system disorders, such as Parkinson's disease, also can be treated.
Abstract: The present invention relates to gene expression profiles for breast cancer, microarrays comprising nucleic acid sequences representing gene expression profiles, and methods of using expression profiles and microarrays. The invention also provides methods and compositions for diagnostic assays for detecting cancer and therapeutic methods and compositions for treating cancer. The invention also provides methods for designing, identifying, and optimizing therapeutics for cancer.
Abstract: A process for preparing an emulsion is disclosed. The process entails mixing an aqueous mineral acid that contains phosphorous in an organic solvent, the mixing being continuous and with the degree of intensity sufficient to form a homogeneous emulsion. The emulsion prepared by the process is useful in the process of preparing polycarbonate by the interfacial process. Accordingly the washed organic polycarbonate that has been washed without the use of a phosphorous containing mineral acid solution is mixed with the novel emulsion. The resulting polycarbonate is characterized by its improved thermal stability.

Abstract: The invention relates to double-metal cyanide catalysts for preparing polyols by the polyaddition of alkylene oxides on to starter compounds containing active hydrogen atoms, wherein the DMC catalysts are composed of: a) at least one double-metal cyanide compound; b) at least one organic complexing ligand; and, optionally, c) at least one functionalized polymer, wherein the organic complexing ligand is a mixture of a C3-C7 aliphatic alcohol and from about 2 to about 98 mole %, based on the total amount of organic complexing ligand, of a cyclic, aliphatic, cycloaliphatic or aromatic ketone. The DMC catalysts of the present invention have increased activity compared to known catalysts. Additionally, the DMC catalysts of the present invention can be used to prepare polyols with reduced high molecular weight components.
Abstract: “The present invention relates to DNA sequences, comprising nucleic acid fragments encoding dehiscence zone-selective proteins, particularly cell wall hydrolases such as polygalacturonases, and their use for modifying dehiscence properties in plants, more particularly pod dehiscence properties in Brassica napus.
