  • Patent number: 4977438
Abstract: A semiconductor device which can be turned off via a first gate arranged at the cathode side including, a second gate structure comparable to the structure of the first gate arranged at the anode side. During the turning off, the charge carriers can be more rapidly drawn away from the base area of the component via the second anode-side gate and the turn-off behavior can thus be improved. In a dual gate device of the invention, a dual cascode circuit constructed with two MOSFETs.

  • Patent number: 4877928
Abstract: A release mechanism for a high speed circuit breaker comprises a roller rotatably supported on an axle in a mobile contact bridge. A jack is acting in the circuit closing direction on the roller, and the frontal side of the jack is in the form of a slide. The force of a disconnecting spring acts on the contact bridge in a disconnecting direction. The release mechanism to be provided with the connected contact bridge is capable of very rapid release, so that high short circuit currents may be interrupted very rapidly. This is obtained by the slide having a configuration such that in the connected state of the contact bridge the frictional forces acting on the roller are compensated.

  • Patent number: 4809296
Abstract: A method for transmitting data via the power system line of a power supply system by carrier frequency modulation, wherein an improvement in the reliability of transmission is achieved by transmitting the same information several times in succession (time diversity) of different carrier frequencies (frequency diversity). Additional coding of the data by a "forward error correction code" results in further improvement.

  • Patent number: 4796595
Abstract: In a free-running pressure wave supercharger driven by the gas forces, nozzles (27) are provided in the gas casing (6) and possibly also in the air casing (5), which nozzles are connected--via a drive line (26)--with a position in the air casing (5), preferably with the high-pressure air port (2), at which position a surplus pressure relative to the nozzle entry occurs during the run-up phase of the pressure wave supercharger. A control device 15 actuates a supercharge air flat (14) in the port (2) and a valve device (23+25) in the drive line (26) in the opposite sense, i.e. if the supercharge air flap (14) holds the port (2) closed, the valve device (23+25) frees the flow through the drive line (26) to the nozzle (27) and vice versa. The diaphragm capsule (17) of the control device (15) is subjected, on one side, to the pressure in a compression pocket (11) via a control pressure line (19) and, on the other side, to the pressure before the supercharge air flap (14) in the port (2).

  • Patent number: 4796283
Abstract: A device for counting the overvoltage surges discharged by a gapless overvoltage arrester contains a sensing head and a counting mechanism which follows the sensing head. In the sensing head, the discharge current carried by the overvoltage arrester in a ground return line during the occurrence of an overvoltage surge is detected. The counting mechanism records an overvoltage surge as soon as the discharge current exceeds a threshold value. During this process, an effective connection between the sensing head and a counter is established for a brief time by means of a switch. This device is intended to be characterized, with a high counting accuracy, by a dead time which is independent of the components used. This is achieved by the measure that the switch is followed by a threshold detector which responds above the threshold value of the discharge current.

  • Patent number: 4789792
Abstract: The invention relates to a feeding or matching circuit for feeding signal circuits, conducted via a multi-pin plug-in connection, of a freely programmable control unit or of a control and instrumentation system comprising at least one electronic module which carries a part of the plug-in connection, or for matching the signal circuits to the inputs or outputs of this module. With respect to a more rational circuit construction, the connection to the supply source or the circuit components necessary for matching is provided in accordance with the invention by means of a multi-pin intermediate connector which can be plugged between the detachable parts of the plug-in connection.

  • Patent number: 4774876
Abstract: In a spring suspension of an actuating piston, essentially consisting of a spring plate, a control spring acting on the spring plate and a nut as connection between actuating piston and spring plate, an intermediate underlay (5) is arranged between spring plate (2) and nut (4). The supporting surfaces of the intermediate underlay (5) with respect to the spring plate (2) and the nut (4) are formed by several mutually offset rolling elements (6a, 6b).

  • Patent number: 4764249
Abstract: A coating layer (2) for semiconductor technology having an edge contour which has a wedge-shaped cross section is produced by predominantly anisotropic dry etching of the coating layer (2) through a mask (4) disposed in front of the coating layer (2) at a finite mask distance (A).The coating layer (2) etched in this manner is especially well suited as an insulating substrate for a field plate in the edge region of a P-N junction emerging at the surface and also as implantation mask for producing a P-N junction with lateral doping gradients.

  • Patent number: 4752193
Abstract: In order to prevent losses of lubricant in the bearing housing of the high-pressure stage of an exhaust-gas turbocharger for two-stage supercharging, the interior space of the bearing housing is conductively connected via a blocking air ring duct, pipes connected to the latter and a balancing pipe, to the low pressure boost air pipe in front of the high-pressure compressor. An alternate connection between the bearing housing and the low-pressure boost air pipe may be made via an oil return pipe to a lubricating oil tank and a balancing pipe between the lubricating oil tank and the low-pressure boost air pipe.

  • Patent number: 4742197
Abstract: The high-voltage switch filled with an insulating medium has at least one interrupter chamber (3, 3a) fixed on a central housing (2) supported by an insulator column (1). Fitted in the region of the at least one interrupter chamber (3, 3a) is at least one measuring head (6), in which a sensor (9) picks up current-proportional measuring signals. These measuring signals are transmitted via an optical waveguide (16) at ground potential for further processing.A high-voltage switch is to be created in which sensors (9, 39) can be fitted by simple means in easily accessible manner outside in the region of the interrupter chamber (3, 3a). This is achieved by the at least one measuring head (6) being accommodated in a housing suitable for fitting outside on the high-voltage switch. In this arrangement, the optical waveguide (16) is led pressure-tight through a closure cover (38) of a fitting opening into the central housing (2).

  • Patent number: 4719554
Abstract: The field windings of large generators of hydroelectric power stations which are continuously connected to a three-phase system and are designed to produce large capacitive powers, are fed from a "positive" main static converter, designed for 8 kA, via a field circuit. An anti-parallel "negative" auxiliary static converter designed for 600 A maintains a link current (i.sub.Z) of 200 A in a direct-current link with a link choke. To prevent overcurrents, which can be harmful for the link choke and the auxiliary static converter, in the direct-current link due to disturbances such as, for example, a short-circuit in the three-phase system or connection or disconnection of capacitor banks, a free-wheeling residual current is initiated in the direct-current link when the link current (i.sub.Z) exceeds a predeterminable first current limit value (i.sub.G1), corresponding to 120% of the nominal link current, during a minimum period of time of 0.5 ms.
