Abstract: The systems and methods monitor a subject's blood pressure under a constant applied pressure. Measurements taken from a pressure measuring element and a pulse sensing element are combined to determine the subject's systolic and diastolic pressure. The systolic pressure is measured directly by the pressure measuring element, and the diastolic pressure is determined indirectly by using a pulse waveform to extrapolate portions of a pressure waveform. The systems and methods can be employed in any number of applications, including, without limitation, taking a single reading from a subject, continuously monitoring a subject, or evaluating a subject during physical exertion.
Abstract: A system and method for transmitting information to a group of recipient devices [106, 108, 110] according to a transmission schedule [500] is provided. A sequence of M blocks of information are transformed [406] into N transformed blocks, where M and N are integers and N?M. Each of the N transformed blocks are transmitted to a group of user devices [106, 108, 110] in a network in accordance with a transmission schedule [500]. At one of the user devices [106, 108, 110], at least some of the N transformed blocks are received. When K distinct transformed blocks have been received, where K is an integer and K<N, the information is reconstructed [708] from the K transformed blocks. In some implementations, at least one recipient device [106, 108, 110] reduces power, after receiving a recipient schedule [600] including a transmission time [602] of at least one desired content, until or near the transmission time [602] of the at least one desired content.
