Abstract: The technique herein optimizes delivery performance from a content delivery network (CDN) edge node, preferably by using knowledge of radio link allocation behavior. According to the technique herein, an IP address of a cellular end user (or equivalent) is recognized by the CDN edge. Then, preferably by tracking idle times both in consecutive downloading bursts in the end user session and in an on/off style radio link allocation pattern, the CDN edge adjusts transport layer network protocol parameters. The approach (which leverages the cross-layer intelligence obtainable from existing CDN infrastructure) thus enables the transport layer protocol implemented at the edge to optimize the delivery performance over the cellular mobile network.

Abstract: A data discovery service provides methods of indexing and archiving data from streaming data sources. The data discovery service can subscribe to a streaming service which transmits data collected by a streaming data source. The streaming data source may be associated with an index policy that identifies the types of data from the data stream are to be indexed, and an archive policy that identifies under what conditions an index should be archived. An index of the data stream may be generated based on the index policy until an archive event is detected. When the archive event is detected, the index can be transmitted to an archive data store and a new index can be generated for the data stream.

Abstract: A component of a computing service obtains respective indications of placement policies that contain host selection rules for application execution environments such as guest virtual machines. With respect to a request for a particular application execution environment, a group of applicable placement policies is identified. A candidate pool of hosts is selected using the group of placement policies, and members of the pool are ranked to identify a particular host on which the requested application execution environment is instantiated.

Abstract: A method for transmitting data to a base station (BS) at a user equipment (UE) is discussed. The method includes receiving information regarding a contention-based Physical Uplink Shared Channel (PUSCH) zone including a plurality of contention-based PUSCH resource blocks, allocating at least one contention-based PUSCH resource block for transmission of the data based on the contention-based PUSCH zone information, and transmitting the data to the BS, wherein, when the UE determines to transmit the data using the contention-based PUSCH zone, the information regarding the contention-based PUSCH zone is received through a unicast message.
Abstract: Systems and methods are provided for evaluating an alarm condition for a monitored patient in a population of one or more patients. One or more physiological parameters pertaining to the patient, or physiological variables, are used to form a time series describing the patient status. A quantile threshold is determined for a patient. A monitor is initialized and begins generating a binary raw alarm signal. The binary signal is filtered with a low pass filter, and the filtered data is subjected to a quantile operation to determine if a particular sample exceeds the determined quantile threshold. If the quantile threshold is exceeded, then a check is performed to see if the raw binary alarm signal also indicates an alarm. If both the preliminary alarm indication and the raw binary signal indicate an alarm, then an alarm is emitted; otherwise monitoring continues.
