  • Patent number: 9816322
Abstract: Adjustable drill string housings are described for use in the directional drilling of wellbores, e.g. wellbores for hydrocarbon recovery wells. The adjustable drill string housings permit adjustment of a bend angle in the housings without removing the housings from a wellbore. In some exemplary embodiments, the bend angle can be adjusted by changing the internal stresses in a support member carried by the housings. In other embodiments, the bend angle may be adjusted by causing failure of sacrificial support members carried by the housings, and the failure may be caused by delivering chemicals through a chemical delivery system to the sacrificial support members. Methods of operating the adjustable drill string housings include multi-lateral drilling operations wherein the bend angle is adjusted when a casing window has been detected.

  • Patent number: 9814416
Abstract: Embodiments described herein relate to an analyte monitoring device having a user interface with a display and a plurality of actuators. The display is configured to render a plurality of display screens, including a home screen and an alert screen. The home screen is divided into a plurality of simultaneously displayed panels, with a first panel displays a rate of change of continuously monitored analyte levels in interstitial fluid, a second panel simultaneously displays a current analyte level and an analyte trend indicator, and a third panel displays status information of a plurality of components of the device. When an alarm condition is detected, the display renders the alert screen in place of the home screen, the alert screen displaying information corresponding to the detected alarm condition. Furthermore, the actuators are configured to affect further output of the analyte monitoring device corresponding to the detected condition.

  • Patent number: 9820313
Abstract: Disclosed are techniques for mediating a communication session between a communication device operating asynchronously and a communication device operating synchronously. A communications server receives a first set of audio data segments transmitted asynchronously from an asynchronous communication device over a first communication link and converts the audio data segments into a first synchronous stream of audio data. The communications server then establishes a synchronous audio media channel between itself and the synchronous device over a second communication link before transmitting the first synchronous stream of audio data to the second communication device over the established synchronous audio media channel. The communications server may also receive a second synchronous stream of audio data from the synchronous communication device and convert the second synchronous stream of audio data into a second set of audio data segments.

  • Patent number: 9814887
Abstract: A medical device and associated method record signals from each real axis of a multi-axis sensor. An optimal axis for monitoring a physiological signal of the patient is identified from the real axes of the multi-axis sensor and multiple virtual axes. Coordinates defining the optimal axis are stored as respective weighting factors of the signals from each real axis of the multi-axis sensor. A metric of the physiological signal is determined using the multi-axis sensor signals and the weighting factors.

  • Patent number: 9819801
Abstract: A system, apparatus, graphical user interface and methods are provided for conducting electronic voice communications with status notifications. A user of a first portable device executing a communication application selects a multi-function control that automatically initiates an audio recording, which is automatically sent toward another participant of an active communication session when the control is released. The same multi-function control may be used to transmit a textual message. A representation of the recording is displayed on the user's device, with an indicator that changes appearance when the other participant plays the recording. In addition, when one user initiates an audio recording that will be automatically sent to another user, the other user's device is advised of the initiation of recording and displays that status for the other user.
