Abstract: An x-ray source can include an x-ray tube and a power supply. The x-ray tube can be removably affixed to the power supply in a rigid manner with the x-ray tube movable and holdable along with the power supply when affixed thereto. A releasable coupling between the x-ray tube and the power supply can create an interface defining a potential arc path. A means, such as a non-linear plug and socket junction, a gasket, or an electrically conductive sleeve, can be used for resisting arcing along the potential arc path.

Abstract: Dynamic key cryptography validates mobile device users to cloud services by uniquely identifying the user's electronic device using a very wide range of hardware, firmware, and software minutiae, user secrets, and user biometric values found in or collected by the device. Processes for uniquely identifying and validating the device include: selecting a subset of minutia from a plurality of minutia types; computing a challenge from which the user device can form a response based on the selected combination of minutia; computing a set of pre-processed responses that covers a range of all actual responses possible to be received from the device if the combination of the particular device with the device's collected actual values of minutia is valid; receiving an actual response to the challenge from the device; determining whether the actual response matches any of the pre-processed responses; and providing validation, enabling authentication, data protection, and digital signatures.

Abstract: Systems, devices and techniques for processing received QPSK modulated optical signals include sampling the received signal at twice the baud rate, thereby producing samples that are then processed as 9-QAM symbols using a decision directed least squares optimization method. Data bits are then recovered from the resulting symbol estimates. The received optical signal may also include dual polarized signals for increased bandwidth capacity.
Abstract: Apparatus are provided for infusion devices and related operating methods. An exemplary infusion device includes a housing to receive a shaft coupled to a plunger disposed in a reservoir and a gear assembly including a first gear to engage the shaft, wherein the first gear exhibits rotational freedom in a direction opposite a delivery direction. One exemplary method of operating the infusion device comprises identifying a reset condition and in response to the reset condition, operating a motor having a rotor coupled to the gear assembly to provide the rotational freedom for the first gear.

Abstract: An annuloplasty ring to resize a dilated aortic root during valve sparing surgery includes a scalloped space frame having three trough sections connected to define three crest sections. The annuloplasty ring is mounted outside the aortic root, and extends in height between a base plane and a spaced apart commissure plane of the aortic root. At least two adjacent trough sections are coupled by an annulus-restraining member or tether that limits the maximum deflection of the base of the annuloplasty ring. In use, the tether is preferably located in proximity to the base plane of the aortic root. The annuloplasty ring is movable between a first, substantially conical configuration occurring during a diastolic phase of the cardiac cycle, and a second, substantially cylindrical configuration occurring during a systolic phase of the cardiac cycle.

A method of operating a drilling isolation valve can include manipulating an object in a wellbore, a sensor of the drilling isolation valve detecting the object manipulation, and the drilling isolation valve operating between open and closed configurations in response to the sensor detecting the object manipulation.
Abstract: A measurement device includes: a measurement portion that acquires measurement data; a setting portion that specifies an external device as a transmission destination of the measurement data based on a signal transmitted from the external device, and allows communication with the external device without receiving input of authentication information; and a transmission and reception portion that transmits measurement data to the external device. The setting portion causes the transmission and reception portion to transmit identification information of the measurement device to the external device, and further to transmit confirmation information thereto in addition to the identification information. The confirmation information is used by the external device to decide whether or not the external device can handle the measurement data transmitted from the measurement device.
