Abstract: A circuit for driving a light-emitting diode (LED) light source includes a converter, a saw-tooth signal generator, and a controller. The converter includes a switch which is controlled by a driving signal. The converter provides a sense signal indicating the current through said LED light source. The saw-tooth signal generator generates a saw-tooth signal based on the driving signal. The controller generates the driving signal based on signals including the saw-tooth signal and the first sense signal to adjust the current through the LED light source to a target level and to correct a power factor of the driving circuit by controlling an average current of the input current to be substantially in phase with said input voltage.

Abstract: A voltage supply circuit includes, inter alia, a clock generator, a negative voltage pump, a level shifter, a clock controller, and a pump circuit. The clock generator generates a first clock swinging between a positive voltage and a ground voltage. The negative voltage pump generates a negative voltage. A level shifter shifts the first clock by the negative voltage to output a second clock swinging between the negative voltage and the ground voltage. The clock controller generates a third clock by inverting the second clock and also generates a fourth clock by inverting the third clock. The pump circuit generates a high voltage according to the third and fourth clocks.

Abstract: A rod tong assembly has inner and outer rings. The outer ring has rollers disposed about a central opening. The inner ring disposes in the outer ring and has three jaws for engaging a rod element. The outer ring is rotated clockwise to make a rod connection and is rotated counter-clockwise to break the rod connection. When rotated, the rollers pivot the opposing jaws pivot against flats of the rod element. Further rotation of the outer ring then rotates the inner ring to respectively tighten or loosen the connection. To return the assembly to its default condition, operators switch a lock disposed on the inner ring to a return condition. When the outer ring is then rotated back, the lock catches on the outer ring and allows the inner ring to rotate in the same direction as the outer ring.

Abstract: Active noise cancellation (ANC) circuitry is coupled to the input of an earpiece speaker in a portable audio device, to control the ambient acoustic noise outside of the device and that may be heard by a user of the device. A microphone is to pickup sound emitted from the earpiece speaker, as well as the ambient acoustic noise. Control circuitry deactivates the ANC in response to determining that an estimate of how much sound emitted from the earpiece speaker has been corrupted by noise indicates insufficient corruption by noise. In another embodiment, the ANC decision is in response to determining that an estimate of the ambient acoustic noise level is greater than an estimate of the anti-noise produced by the ANC. Other embodiments are also described and claimed.

Abstract: Embodiments of the invention provided a driving circuit for powering a light-emitting diode (LED) light source. The driving circuit includes a rectifier, a s filter capacitor, and a control circuit. The rectifier converts an AC voltage from an AC power source to a rectified AC voltage. The filter capacitor coupled to the rectifier filters the rectified AC voltage to provide a DC voltage. The control circuit controls power supplied to the LED light source. The control circuit enables a discharging current periodically to discharge the filter capacitor if a switch coupled between an AC power source and a rectifier is turned off and disables the discharging current if the control circuit determines that the switch is turned on.
