  • Patent number: 11984010
Abstract: A wearable medical device (e.g., wearable drug delivery pump) sends a request to another device for generation of an audible or vibratory notification at the other device, which is helpful when the wearable medical device is obscured by a user's clothing or the user is vision or hearing impaired. The other device receiving the request to generate a notification can be a remote controller or smartphone paired with the wearable medical device, or a smart watch or a Bluetooth (BT)-enabled headset or other device paired with the remote controller. The wearable medical device is configured with a BT stack that allows the device to pair with its controller in a secure bonded relationship, but to send signals requiring less security (e.g., requests for generation of notifications) to other devices (e.g., a BT-enabled headset or smart watch) using a more ubiquitous wireless protocol such as a standard BT protocol with broadcast mode.

  • Patent number: 11980727
Abstract: A needle protection device may include a hub, a housing disposed within the lumen of the hub, and a needle. The housing may include a tubular portion, which may include two arms coupled thereto. Each of the arms may include a first end coupled to the tubular portion, a second end disposed within the tubular portion, and a bent portion therebetween. The second end of the first arm and the second end of the second arm may form a duckbill valve. A needle may extend through the housing. Withdrawing a sharp distal tip of the needle in a proximal direction beyond the second end of each of the arms may close the duckbill valve and facilitate removal of the housing from the hub. Shielding the sharp distal tip of the needle in this manner may prevent blood spatter and exposure to blood and blood-borne pathogens.

  • Patent number: 11980739
Abstract: A fluid delivery device has a syringe barrel-type reservoir with plunger, and plunger driver assembly comprising double-acting, telescoping lead screws that is located behind and outside of the barrel. Simultaneously and counter-rotating sleeve screw and center screw telescope out of a nested configuration of the plunger driver assembly and into the reservoir at a rate of double their individual and equal pitch and lead parameters when the sleeve screw is rotated. A threaded nut and gear anchor disposed on an end of the barrel receive the sleeve screw and the threaded nut causes the sleeve screw to translate and rotate in response to motor operation. A distal end of the center screw can be keyed to a plunger pusher for anti-rotation constraint when the motor is imparting rotation on the threaded nut and sleeve screw.

  • Publication number: 20240148973
Abstract: A dual chamber syringe facilitates selective drug mixing, dosing, and administration, as well as pre- or post-administration flushing with a single syringe instrument. A syringe barrel incorporates an outlet, as well as variable-volume, primary and secondary fluid chambers, separated by a floating stopper. The floating stopper defines a dome-shaped split septum with a central slit at its apex. The split septum is a bi-stable valve, closing the central slit by compression in its meridial dimension when the septum is in a first, relaxed state, and opening the central slit when the septum is buckled or flipped under tension in the meridial dimension in a second state. Buckling of the septum wall is caused solely by differential fluid pressure applied by a single plunger, without physical contact of the septum with any other structure within the syringe.
