Abstract: The present invention includes a catheter locking solution having both antimicrobial and anticoagulant properties including a local anesthetic and a viscosifying agent. The local anesthetic of the present invention may be an amino amide; an amino ester; an aminoacylanilide; an aminoalkyl benzoate; an amino carbonate; an N-phenylamidine compound; an N-aminoalkyl amid; an aminoketone, or combinations and mixtures thereof. In a particular embodiment of the present invention, the local anesthetic is tetracaine or dibucaine.
Abstract: An I.V. flush syringe assembly includes a barrel having an inside surface defining a chamber for retaining fluid, an open proximal end and a distal end including a distal wall with an elongate tip extending distally therefrom having a passageway therethrough in fluid communication with the chamber. A plunger having an elongate body portion and a stopper slidably positioned in fluid-tight engagement with the inside surface of the barrel is provided. Anti-reflux structure in said barrel is provided for controlling stopper deflection when fluid has been delivered from the chamber and the stopper is in contact with structure on the distal wall.

Abstract: An adapter of the present invention useful for attaching a fluid handling device to a catheter includes a body having a proximal end, a distal end and an open passageway therethrough. The passageway includes a seat to receive the catheter and a cavity distal to the catheter seat. There is a gasket disposed in the cavity to form a substantially fluid tight seal about the catheter when the catheter is positioned on the catheter seat. The adapter further includes a retainer, disposed on the distal end of the body over the gasket with an opening therethrough that is substantially aligned with the passageway. The opening is sufficient to allow the catheter to pass through into the passageway to engage the gasket and the catheter seat. The retainer has a plurality of flexible projections into the opening that are sized and shaped to engage the catheter and be proximally deflected by the placement of the catheter on the catheter seat.
Abstract: A multiwell tissue culture assembly for culturing cells comprising a plate and a lid. The plate includes a plurality of wells for accommodating a cell culture insert and the lid includes means for varying the gas diffusion into and out of the assembly and for substantially minimizing biological contamination of the cells being cultured in the cell culture insert. The means for varying the gas diffusion is a gas permeable membrane provided in a plurality of openings in the lid and a plurality of removable thin impermeable film labels are provided for selectively occluding passage of gases through the gas permeable membranes. The means for minimizing biological contamination of the cells being cultured is a sealing material located in the lid and means for removably securing the lid and the plate together whereby the sealing material is compressed between the lid and the plate.

Abstract: A test device for use in determining analyte wherein binder is supported on a solid support in admixture with a marker whereby the presence and location of binder on the support can be determined prior to the assay. A control for the assay may also be applied to the support in admixture with a label.
