  • Patent number: 6227391
Abstract: A container closure assembly that includes a container neck having an opening and a closure for the container neck, wherein the closure has a base portion and a skirt portion. A first screw thread on one of the container neck and the closure, the first screw thread comprising one or more first thread segments and a second screw thread on the other of the container neck and the closure, the second screw thread having a plurality of second thread segments, each of the second thread segment including upper and lower thread surfaces. A seal that forms a seal between the container neck and closure when the closure is screwed down on the container neck. Mutually engageable elements on the container neck and closure to block or restrict rotation of the closure in an unscrewing direction beyond an intermediate position when the closure is under an axial pressure in a direction emerging from the container neck.

  • Patent number: 6015054
Abstract: The invention provides container closure assemblies, especially for carbonated beverage containers, having substantially helical second thread segment (20) with a profiled lower thread surface (24). The profiled lower thread surface (24) includes a first, lower region (28) with a low pitch and a second region (30) with a steep pitch. The thread (20) may also include a step feature (32) to block unscrewing of the closure at an intermediate position where gas venting can take place, and a third region (34) of the said lower surface having a low pitch adjacent to the step. The closures are easy to apply and remove, and do not blow off unpredictably or uncontrollably under pressure.

  • Patent number: 5836465
Abstract: A child-resistant container and closure assembly having a container neck with a first screw thread and two first locking elements located below the first screw thread on opposite sides of the container neck. A closure for the container neck has a second screw thread complementary to the first screw thread, a resiliently deformable skirt, and two second locking elements on opposite sides of the resiliently deformable skirt. The first and second locking elements mutually engage in ratchet fashion when the closure is screwed onto a fully engaged position on the container neck and subsequently block unscrewing of the closure unless a radial pressure is applied to the skirt at positions spaced from the locking elements to deform the skirt to release the locking elements. The first and second threads are two-start, fast-turn threads so that the closure can be moved from a substantially fully disengaged position to a substantially fully engaged position on the neck by rotation through about 180.degree. or less.

  • Patent number: 5819965
Abstract: A container closure assembly including a container neck having a first screw thread, a radially projecting bead located below the first screw thread, and one or more ratchet projections located below the radially projecting bead. The container closure further includes a closure having a skirt portion with a second screw thread complementary to the first screw thread for securing the closure on the container neck. A tamper evident ring is joined to the skirt portion by severable connections and includes a generally annular collar for the neck, an opening or recess formed in the collar, wherein a portion of an edge of the opening or recess is attached to a tab. The tab is inclined radially inwardly and obliquely relative to a central axis of the ring and flexes relative to the collar in a radially outward direction.

  • Patent number: 5788101
Abstract: The invention relates to a container neck (10) and closure (12), particularly useful for foil-sealed containers. The neck (10) and closure (12) include complementary threads (14, 16) or projections and complementary tapered surfaces (18, 20) which are adapted to form an interference fit and seal the closure (12) to the neck (10) at a region clear from the lip (30) of the neck (10) and the crown (120) of the closure (12). Any foil seal (28) present on the container neck (10) remains free from contact with the closure (12) during application and tightening. Preferably the neck (10) includes a recessed lip (30, 32) further to protect the seal and to inhibit drop formation. An outer edge of the container lip may be chamfered to provide a pull tab on the foil seal. Additionally, the foil may be of a larger diameter than the lip of the container, so that it provides an overhanging edge of foil to facilitate the removal of the foil, but not of such a large diameter that it touches the inner surface of the closure.
