  • Patent number: 7012817
Abstract: A converter includes a transformer having a primary winding, a secondary winding and an auxiliary winding, a first switching device for connecting an input voltage to the primary winding of the transformer, an output circuit connected to the secondary winding, a controller, and an integrated active clamp and primary bias circuit. The integrated active clamp and primary bias circuit includes the auxiliary winding and a second switch providing a bias voltage to the controller to alternately operate the first and second switches between conductive and non-conductive states. When the first switch is conductive the second switch is nonconducting and power is transferred from the primary winding to the output circuit via the secondary winding and from the auxiliary winding to the controller. When the first switch is nonconducting, the second switch is conducting and the voltage across the primary winding is clamped.

  • Patent number: 6879497
Abstract: The multiple output power adapter includes an AC input receptacle which plugs into an AC power socket. The AC input receptacle is connected to an input of a single output power converter which converts the input AC voltage into an output DC voltage of a specified level. Connected to the output terminal of the single output power converter is a DC-DC module converter which converts the output DC voltage into multiple output DC voltages. Additionally, the multiple output power adapter includes an output wire connected to the output terminal of the single output power adapter in parallel with the DC-DC module converter. The output wire and the output terminal of the DC-DC module converter are both then connected to an electrical component connector. With this structure, DC power can be supplied to an electronic device at a voltage level output by the single output power converter and/or at multiple voltage levels output by the DC-DC module converter.

  • Patent number: 6597155
Abstract: A self-oscillation DC-DC converter circuit which includes a first transistor electrically connected to an input positive terminal, a second transistor electrically connected to the first transistor and operable to pass a portion of a base current of the first transistor, and a circuit to steady the output voltage electrically connected between the second transistor and an output positive terminal. The output negative terminal is connected directly to the input negative terminal. The self-oscillation DC-DC converter circuit does not use an auxiliary turn, thereby allowing the use of NPN transistors. Positive feedback is achieved by a voltage change Vce1 of the first transistor from a saturation state to a non-saturation state. In the non-saturation state, the second transistor is turned on, the first transistor is turned off and self-oscillation is achieved. With this construction, the self-oscillation DC-DC converter operates normally when the input voltage is lower than 5Vdc.

  • Patent number: 6583993
Abstract: A self-driven synchronous rectification circuit which includes two power switches S1 and S2; a transformer Tr having a primary winding with Np number of turns, a secondary winding with Ns number of turns and an auxiliary winding with Na number of turns; two secondary synchronous rectifiers S3 and S4; two diodes D1 and D2; and two zener diodes ZD1 and ZD2. The number of auxiliary winding turns Na of the transformer Tr ensure that the synchronous rectifiers S3 and S4 are supplied with an adequate gate-drive voltage. When S3 conducts, the gate-drive voltage of S4 is clamped by D1. Likewise, when S4 conducts, the gate-drive voltage of S3 is clamped by D2. ZD1 and ZD2 operate to restrain the gate overvoltage of S3 and S4, respectively. With this design, the self-driven synchronous rectifier circuit operates normally at various output voltages, such as low output voltages of 3.3V or lower and/or high output voltages above 6V.
