  • Patent number: 6385301
Abstract: A monitoring system captures and processes messages from SS7 links, to compile call detail records (CDRs) for all interoffice call attempts. The CDRs are uploaded into a relational database. Automatic Message Accounting (AMA) records also are accumulated and uploaded to another relational database. A data preparation operation enhances the records for further processing. This data preparation operation involves translating information in the records into more useful forms, using external reference data regarding the monitored network. For example, the data preparation translates SS7 point codes or NPA-NXX codes in the records to textual names of originating and terminating offices. The data preparation also spreads the usage information from the records to properly allocate usage time to predefined intervals. Another function of the data preparation stage is to form one or more predefined tables from the processed records, for example a table of modified records and one or more specialized summary tables.

  • Patent number: 6381472
Abstract: Digital wireless telephone equipment is adapted to support existing data services for the hearing or speech impaired. The data devices use existing analog tone transmission protocols. The digital telephone equipment provides protocol conversions between the standard tone signals used by TDD/TTY devices or the like and data messages in the form of a standard data protocol utilized within the air-link of the digital wireless telephone system. In either direction, each tone generated by the data device is detected. Upon detection of one or more tones, a protocol converter generates a data message signifying the bit(s) represented by the tone signals in a format used by the air-link protocol. The converter supplies the data message to the appropriate digital radio transceiver. The transceiver inserts the message into the data stream with any other information for the pertinent subscriber, such as vocoded audio information. The transceiver sends the combined data stream over the air-link.

  • Patent number: 6377562
Abstract: A wireless, cellular radio link is provided from a base station to a plurality of subscriber stations within a cell reception area. Information data, which may be of textual, video or other format, are communicated asymmetrically as high bandwidth transmissions in the downstream direction to the users while low upstream bandwidth is provided to permit users to request the data or to provide return radio link condition information. Buffers associated with respective subscribers collect requested data from information providers for transmission by the base station in a statistical time division multiplexed (STDM) fashion, whereby each subscriber may be assigned a minimum transmission time interval during which data will be transferred from the associated buffer. Controlled logical token passing governs a variable token interval during which data transmission for each buffer is permitted in turn.

  • Patent number: 6351453
Abstract: Specialized telecom network users who burden the network, such as Internet Service Providers (ISPs), are identified by analysis of network traffic data to identify addresses (e.g. telephone numbers) for destinations receiving unique patterns of incoming traffic. For an ISP, in particular, the analysis involves identifying telephone, numbers of destinations receiving a high volume of calls and having connections exhibiting a long average hold time. To further enhance the ISP finder analysis, the call data may be examined to confirm that there is no outgoing call traffic from any station associated with the candidate ISP numbers. When numbers are identified by the call data analysis, a technician can call each number and listen for a modem tone, as a confirmation that each candidate number actually is of a data service, such as an ISP. Similar methodologies can identify destination numbers for other unique service providers, such as credit card verification services.

  • Patent number: 6330308
Abstract: A voice mail system today offers a user the option to forward a message that he or she has reviewed, alone or along with a message recorded by the user. However, to forward the message, the voice mail system needs to receive the telephone number of the party intended as the recipient of the forwarded message. To eliminate the need for manual output of the destination telephone number, the voice mail system is coupled for communication with a voice responsive directory service system. The directory service system or alternatively the voice mail system prompts the user to speak the name of the party intended as the recipient of the forwarded message. The directory service system analyzes the input speech information, identifies a desired destination and retrieves the number for that destination. The directory service system may announce the number to the user, for manual input to the voice mail system. Preferably, the directory service system supplies the number directly to the voice mail system.

  • Patent number: 6298123
Abstract: Local exchange carriers (LECs) face increasingly stiff competition. The LECs provide interconnect services for many of the potentially competing carriers. To forecast business trends and manage its network, any carrier, particularly a LEC, needs to effectively estimate the size and revenue generating potentials of the business of the potentially competing carriers. In accord with the invention, monitor equipment on the one carrier's network forms detailed records from call related messages produced by that network for interconnect call traffic with another carrier's network. These records are loaded into a relational database. Preferably, a data preparation routine enhances the data, for example, by translating certain codes into text and by spreading usage data over predefined time intervals. An on-line analytical processing program runs one or more applications to analyze the interconnect traffic.

  • Patent number: 6292479
Abstract: A voice call is transported through diverse network paths including a switched telephone network and a wide area data internetwork, for example, the Internet. In routing the call, common channel signalling is used to provide data identifying a calling subscriber line from a calling PSTN, which information can then be transported through the separate data internetwork to the destination PSTN, at which the data is then extracted and sent to the called subscriber line while completing routing of the call. A route for the call is established at gateways connected to the data internetwork at the interface points with the calling and destination PSTNs, calling subscriber line information and dialed digit information being conveyed to the gateways. The destination end gateway initiates a call connection to the calling subscriber line via the destination PSTN to complete routing of the call, while supplying identification of the calling subscriber line in a form recognized as such by the called PSTN.

  • Patent number: 6282574
Abstract: An enhanced name translation server, for use on a packet data network such as the Internet, executes a conditional analysis in response to at least some queries or requests for name translations. For example, the server may return a different destination address at different times or in response to translation requests from different terminals. The server also can query a primary destination terminal device, and condition the response to the calling terminal on the status of the primary terminal. For example, if the primary terminal is ‘live’ the server forwards the address of that terminal to the calling terminal device to set up communications. Otherwise, the server returns alternate destination address information. The server also supports a wide variety of different types of translations, including domain name to address, domain name to telephone number, and telephone number to address.
