  • Patent number: 8746136
Abstract: A banding device includes a frame. A feeding assembly is mounted on the frame for feeding elastic tubing into the frame. A transfer assembly disposed within the frame includes transfer arm and fingers. The fingers receive the rubber tubing as fed. A cutting assembly is disposed between the transfer assembly and the feeding assembly for cutting the tubing into bands. The fingers of the transfer assembly move between a first closed position for receiving the band and a second open position for opening the band. The transfer arm is moveable between a first position for receiving the band and a second position for transferring the band. A banding assembly disposed at the second position receives the band from the transfer assembly. The banding assembly stretches the band and receives an item to be bundled within the band. The banding assembly releases the band about the bundle.

  • Patent number: 6848489
Abstract: A dispenser comprises a frame that supports a roll of adhesive tape, a handle, a flexible spatula for applying the cut end of the tape, and a cutting blade. The flexible spatula forms a right-angled member having a main arm and another arm which supports the cutting blade. The right-angled member is mounted so as to be rotatable between a rest position, in which the cutting blade is pressed by a spring against a protective member, and a working position, in which the cutting blade is lifted from the protective member so that serrations thereon intersect the path of the adhesive tape. This protective member has a face, on which the blade rests, and which ends in a projecting lip, forming a frontal protection for the serrations on the blade.

  • Patent number: 6837156
Abstract: A twist tie feed device is provided for twisting together the ends of a tie ribbon which encircles a product including a base plate. A twist head assembly can be mounted on a base plate and receives a first end of a tie ribbon which encircles the product and a second end of the encircling tie ribbon and will rotate about itself to twist the tie ribbon about the product. Positive drive wheels and idler working in conjuction feed the ribbon in one of a first direction towards the twist head assembly and a second direction away from the twist head assembly. The positive drive wheels can contact the ribbon at one side and the idler can contact the ribbon on the other side to apply a positive drive force to the drive the ribbon as it passes between the drive wheels and idler. The ribbon can be fed in the second direction away from the twist head assembly, thereby tightening the ribbon about the product.

  • Patent number: 5518045
Abstract: A twist tie device for twisting together the ends of the tie ribbon and encircling an article which is positioned therein for tying is provided. The device includes a feed element for feeding the tie ribbon in the device to the article. An arm is provided for guilding the tie ribbon around the article. A twist head, connected to a rod, is provided for tightening the tie ribbon around the article. A gear assembly is provided for rotating and driving the twist head and for driving tie ribbon feed element. A cylinder with a rod plunger, forming an actuator, is coupled to the gear assembly. In response to a control signal, the actuator moves in a first direction between a start position, a first position and a second position. When the actuator moves from a start position to a first position, it makes contact with the arm so that the arm partially wraps the tie ribbon around the article.

  • Patent number: 4827991
Abstract: In a machine for twist tying a bundle of product, the tie ribbon is fed, for looping about the product to a twist head, by a feed roller. The leading end of the tie ribbon is then clamped to the twist head by a first gripper and, rearward of the feed roller, by a staking clamp and the feed roller is allowed to free wheel. The tie ribbon in the path between the feed roller and the staking clamp is then displaced laterally out of the path. The tension in the tie ribbon around the bundle is controlled by regulating the force applied in displacing the tie ribbon. While the tie ribbon is being tightened on the bundle, tie ribbon needed for looping about the next bundle is placed in an accumulator.

  • Patent number: 4655264
Abstract: A ring encircles produce placed on a work table. Tie ribbon is fed by pressure rollers around the inner periphery of the ring to form a complete loop. A first gripper clamps and retains the free end of the ribbon against a second gripper. The pressure rollers operate in reverse retracting excess ribbon about the produce. A friction clutch, operative only for reverse ribbon feeding, allows for ribbon slippage as the ribbon tightens around the produce. Then the second gripper clamps the other end of the ribbon against a twister head and a twister mechanism rotates the clamped ends of the ribbon about a common axis twisting the ribbon ends together. Shearing edges sever the engaged ribbon from a ribbon supply during twisting. The grippers and twister mechanism are at ends of the concentric support rods and tubes, and the grippers in clamping move along the rotational axis of the twister mechanism.

  • Patent number: 4648531
Abstract: A dispenser for closures ejects an end-most closure contained in a pivotably mounted housing for closing a bag. The closures are formed with a hole and a cut leading from one side to the hole. In one embodiment, the dispenser is wall mounted such that a weight may be used for feeding closures to a dispensing position. A second embodiment uses a spring feed for urging the closures to the feeding position. The housing is formed with facings slots at the front end thereof, a pusher being mounted on a base member. When the housing is pivoted toward the base member, the pusher extends through one slot to displace the end-most closure through the other slot. The dispenser may include cams on either side of the dispensing slot for spreading the portions of the closure on each side of the cut, thereby faciliating application of the closure element to the neck of a bag.
