Patent number: 7849589Abstract: A tool for installing connectors on cables includes a base member and a plunger movably mounted on the base member. A lever mechanism on the base member moves the plunger. There is a wheel member that carries a plurality of dog fixtures thereon. A detent mechanism provides engagement between the wheel member and the base member to define a plurality of rotational positions for the wheel member. In each rotational position, a dog fixture is aligned with the plunger. Preferably, each dog fixture on the wheel member is configured to receive a different size cable.Type: GrantFiled: January 14, 2008Date of Patent: December 14, 2010Assignee: Ben Hughes Communication Products CompanyInventor: David L. Patent number: 7232235Abstract: In a gripping tool a first body member defines a first jaw portion and a first handle portion. The second body member defines a second jaw portion and a second handle portion. The first and second handle portions being coupled to one another at distal ends for movement between and open position and a gripping position. A spring is provided for normally urging at least one of the first and second body members toward the open position. The first and second jaw portions are adapted to grasp an object position between them in response to the body members being moved from the open position to the gripping position.Type: GrantFiled: November 4, 2004Date of Patent: June 19, 2007Assignee: Ben Hughes Communication Products CompanyInventor: David L. Publication number: 20060107796Abstract: The present invention is directed to a gripping tool for installing and removing a connector. The gripping tool includes a first body member and a second body member. The first body member defines a first jaw portion and a first handle portion. The first jaw portion includes a first tip. The second body member defines a second jaw portion and a second handle portion. The second jaw portion includes a second tip. The first and the second handle portions are coupled to one another at distal ends for pivoting movement about an axis between an open position and a gripping position. The first and second tips include gripping means for securely engaging the connector positioned between the first and second jaw portions in response to the first and second body members being moved from the open position to the gripping position.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 30, 2005Publication date: May 25, 2006Applicant: Ben Hughes Communication Products CompanyInventor: David Morrow

Patent number: 5749270Abstract: A tool for preparing a coaxial cable for termination includes a tool holder supporting an axially elongated cylindrical cutter and carrying a guide bushing for maintaining an end portion of a coaxial cable in coaxial alignment with the cutter as the cutter is rotated relative to the cable. A chamfer on the free end of the cutter defines the radially outer extent of a first cutting edge which removes core material contained within the metallic outer sheath of the cable. A coaxial bore extends through the cutter and receives the cable central conductor. A second cutting edge located near the free end of the cutter and partially defined by the cutter bore wall skives core material in close proximity to the surface of the central conductor. A third cutting edge spaced from the first and second edges strips material from the metallic sheath to expose an end portion of the conductor beyond the end of the sheath.Type: GrantFiled: January 29, 1997Date of Patent: May 12, 1998Assignee: Ben Hughes Communication Products CompanyInventor: Roger R. Patent number: 5647119Abstract: A hand tool for assembling a compression type connector on the end portion of an associated insulated electrical cable has a pair of pistol grip handles pivotably moveable relative to each other. A pair of opposing cable retaining members pivotally supported on a tool holder carried by one of the handles releasably retains a cable and an associated connector engaged with the cable in general coaxial alignment with an axially elongated moveable plunger carried by the tool holder and also defines a 360.degree. annular bearing surface surrounding the cable and upon which the connector is seated when pressure is applied to the connector by the plunger. The plunger is connected to the other of the handles by a toggle link and is moved toward the bearing surface to apply axial pressure to the connector by operating the handles. The plunger is adjustable to adapt the tool to apply compression type connector fittings produced by various connector manufactures.Type: GrantFiled: July 25, 1995Date of Patent: July 15, 1997Assignee: Ben Hughes Communication Products CompanyInventors: Roger R. Patent number: 5561903Abstract: A hand tool for cutting an axially extending severable web of insulating material connecting two axially elongate cables in parallel axially spaced apart relation to each other has a generally cylindrical blade holder defining a bore for receiving one of the cables therethrough. A first slot communicates with the bore to receive the severable web. A second slot communicates with the first notch and opens outwardly through the peripheral surface of the blade holder to receive the other of the cables. A blade pivotally supported on the blade holder for movement between a cutting position, wherein the blade extends across the first slot, and a retracted position wherein the blade is disposed at one side of the first slot is normally biased toward its cutting position. Insertion of one of the cables into the bore and through the blade holder causes the blade to pivot to its retracted position allowing free movement of the tool relative to the one cable.Type: GrantFiled: December 15, 1994Date of Patent: October 8, 1996Assignee: Ben Hughes Communication Products CompanyInventor: Roger R.
