Patents Assigned to Benjamin Moore & Co.
  • Patent number: 9139676
Abstract: The invention relates to colorant compositions, and aqueous latex paints or other water-borne coatings made from them, which have a mitigated environmental impact. Levels of solvents, additives and impurities comprising volatile non-aqueous constituents, alkylphenol ethoxylates (and derivatives thereof), crystalline silica, and/or formaldehyde are decreased relative to those typical of preceding generations of colorants and tinted aqueous latex paints and other water-borne coatings. On the other hand, paint-performance as indicated by any of Stormer viscosity stabilization, rheological profile flow/leveling and sag resistance, water sensitivity and color transfer resistance is comparable to a paint in which the aforementioned solvents, additives and impurities are still present.

  • Patent number: 8363063
Abstract: According to one example embodiment described herein is a method of notating a color that includes determining, using predetermined mathematical equations and in dependence on numerical color attributes that identify a color, a plurality of numerical color emotion values each representative of a different human emotional response to the color; and assigning an identifying notation to the color, the identifying notation comprising a color emotion notation that includes the color emotion values.

  • Patent number: 6093095
Abstract: An exhaust system for a liquid processing tank including an exhaust conduit provided in a cover closing the tank. The exhaust conduit communicates with an exhaust system externally of the tank and has an inlet port that is closed by a portion of the cover that is movable to an open position to allow access into the tank. Fumes or vapors from the liquid in the tank are removed through the inlet port and exhaust conduit to an external exhaust duct by suction produced in the exhaust system. When the movable portion of the cover is moved to its closed position closing the tank to allow processing of the liquid in the tank, the inlet port in the exhaust conduit is closed by the movable cover portion.

  • Patent number: 5948369
Abstract: An exhaust system for a liquid processing vessel or tank including a port provided in a cover of the tank and a closure fixed in the tank to close the port when the cover in a closed position closing the space enclosed by the tank. The cover is movable to an open position and fumes or vapors from the liquid in the tank are removed through the port and a conduit communicating with the port and an exhaust passage in which suction is produced to remove the vapors. When the cover is moved to its closed position closing the tank to allow processing of the liquid, the closure blocks the port in the cover.

  • Patent number: 5911251
Abstract: Empty open-top paint cans travelling along a conveyor are filled with paint and a measured amount of an anti-coagulant agent is showered on to the paint surface before closing the cans. The filling of the cans with paint is accomplished at a first processing station and the anti-coagulant is introduced and the closing of the cans is performed at a second processing station. The anti-coagulant dispensing apparatus is switch-activated and employs a shower head for dispensing predetermined quantities without splashing the paint in the cans. The switch is located on the side of the conveyor and is actuated by paint cans contacting the switch during conveyance.

  • Patent number: 5718268
Abstract: Apparatus for dispensing a liquid preferably paint into a container including a weight scale for receiving the container at a dispensing station where the paint is dispensed into the container through a valve and an associated control system including a microprocessor which controls the amount of liquid introduced into the container as determined by the scale. A pusher is provided for moving a container on to the scale, and operatively connected to the pusher is a drip shield to be moved by the pusher to overlie a container during movement from the supply area to the scale.

  • Patent number: 5623976
Abstract: Method and apparatus for automatically supplying containers with a liquid using an electronic scale and high speed microprocessor for measuring the weight of liquid introduced into the containers. The first container is partially filled to a predetermined percentage of a target weight as measured by the scale. Flow into the container is then stopped by closing a valve controlled through the scale and microprocessor. The actual weight of the liquid introduced at this point is measured and a correction factor is determined by subtracting the predetermined percentage weight from the actual weight. Flow into the container is then resumed until a second predetermined weight is achieved as measured by the scale and equal to the target weight minus the correction factor. Flow at this point is stopped by again closing the valve.

  • Patent number: 5570731
Abstract: Apparatus for supplying a plurality of containers with liquid. The apparatus performs the steps of introducing into a first container a first percentage of a predetermined final amount and subsequently introducing in steps additional liquid until said predetermined amount is reached, introducing into a second container a percentage of said predetermined amount greater than the initial percentage introduced into said first container and then introducing additional liquid into said second container in steps until said predetermined amount is reached, and continously introducing into a third container an amount of liquid within a tolerance of said predetermined amount, and wherein the amounts of liquid introduced into the container are measured and determined by weight. A microprocessor connected in circuit with a scale is used to control a valve through which the liquid is introduced into the container.
