  • Patent number: 6890020
Abstract: A hauling trailer particularly suited to the transport of scrap such as crushed and flattened vehicles includes a floor with walls and one open side, and a retractable wall structure for closing off the open side during transport. The wall structure, which may be flexible, rigid, or partitioned, is preferably retracted by raising and lowering a barrier from a member supported above the open side. To provide greater access to the open side during loading, a separate mechanism is provided for raising and lowering the member independent of the wall structure. The member may, for example, form part of a generally c-shaped lid structure, with the separate mechanism moving the lid structure between a lowered and raised position.

  • Patent number: 6877794
Abstract: This invention broadly provides a trailer having a side which opens and closes to prevent the loss of material during transport. In the preferred embodiment, the trailer includes three solid or rigid sides with a fourth side that opens and closes with a drape, though in alternative configurations, two or more sides may also open and close, preferably utilizing the methods and apparatus disclosed herein. In a simple configuration, the invention utilizes a cable suspended between opposing upper points, with a curtain having upper eyelets journaled thereon, enabling the curtain to open and close so as to permit access to the trailer interior. Although this may be carried out according to the invention with an upper cable that remains affixed, in the preferred embodiments, a winch and pulley system is used to tighten the cable, and to loosen the cable for detachment purposes.

  • Patent number: 5921742
Abstract: A roll-off trailer includes an articulating hinge and at least one hydraulic cylinder associated therewith to control the relative movement of fore and aft sections between a first position wherein the fore and aft sections lie substantially in the same horizontal plane during container transport, and a second position wherein the fore and aft sections are articulated to facilitate container loading, unloading and dumping. A pair of fore and aft winches and appropriate cabling may be used to transfer containers on the leveled trailer bed, or alternatively, powered rollers and/or a slide assembly may be used. To assist in dumping and to facilitate loading and unloading in low-ceiling environments, the aft section may be fitted with an optional extensible tail section.
