Publication number: 20160303922Abstract: A tyre cavity noise absorber comprising a body 1 of sound absorbing material with an outer protective cover 3. The body of sound absorbing material is intended to be mounted to a wheel 2 of a wheel and tyre 6 assembly so that a surface of the body is exposed in a tyre cavity of the wheel and tyre assembly. The outer protective cover only partially covers said surface of the body of sound absorbing material such that the cover protects the body of sound absorbing material from a bead 7 of a tyre as a tyre is fitted to, or removed from, the wheel and the uncovered parts of the body of sound absorbing material are free to absorb sound.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 24, 2014Publication date: October 20, 2016Applicant: BENTLEY MOTORS LIMITEDInventor: Andrew James McKinlay

Patent number: 9416834Abstract: A braking system for a vehicle includes a regenerative braking system and a friction braking system. The friction braking system includes one or more conventional friction brakes, and a cooling device operable to cool the one or more friction brakes. The regenerative braking system includes an electric motor that is configurable to operate as an electric generator. The electric motor is connected to the vehicle's road wheels and is operable to decelerate the vehicle by using the wheels to drive electric motor to generate electric energy. The regenerative braking system is operable to direct at least part of the recovered energy to the cooling device and/or the battery. The regenerative braking system preferentially directs the recovered energy to battery. When the battery is at substantially full capacity, the regenerative braking system directs the recovered energy to the cooling device.Type: GrantFiled: February 28, 2013Date of Patent: August 16, 2016Assignee: BENTLEY MOTORS LIMITEDInventor: Deaglan O'Meachair

Patent number: 9393833Abstract: A vehicle trim assembly for mounting directly or indirectly to a vehicle wheel has a center cap, a locking member, and a cap badge. The locking member is mounted on the center cap, whereby a number of projecting portions provided on the locking member engage with a corresponding number of resilient catches provided on the center cap. The locking member is rotatable between a lock and an unlock position. In the lock position, separation of the center cap from the vehicle wheel is prevented by the locking member. When the cap badge is fitted to the assembly, features on the rear face of the cap badge engage with corresponding cooperating features on the center cap and the locking member, thereby preventing the locking member from moving relative to the center cap. An interference locking arrangement prevents the locking member from accidentally rotating from a lock to an unlock position.Type: GrantFiled: June 29, 2012Date of Patent: July 19, 2016Assignee: BENTLEY MOTORS LIMITEDInventors: Christopher Vickers, Mark Phillips, Martin R. Peel

Patent number: 8998261Abstract: A mounting structure for mounting a support for a seat belt to a vehicle, arranged so that when mounted to a vehicle it will move relative to the vehicle in a first range of directions under application of a first force urging the mounting structure in one of the range of directions, but will not move relative to the vehicle in a direction outside the first range of directions when a second, greater, force is applied urging the mounting structure in such a direction. The structure may have a bracket (7) secured to a vehicle by bolts (18) passing through slots (15) in the bracket, allowing the bracket to move generally in the direction of the slots, but not otherwise. De-couplers, in which toothed flanges (20) on collars (19) through which the bolts extend bear against raised pads on u-shaped washer structures (23) may be disposed between the bolt heads and the bracket to limit the force applied to the bracket and enable the applied force at which the bracket will move relative to the vehicle to be controlled.Type: GrantFiled: February 17, 2012Date of Patent: April 7, 2015Assignee: Bentley Motors LimitedInventors: Andrew Downie, Alexander James Redman

Publication number: 20140360636Abstract: A balancer for a wheel and tyre assembly includes one or more tubes 101 containing a movable mass 104. The tube or tubes is/are mounted to a resiliently deformable support 102 with an outer dimension that substantially matches an inner dimension of the tyre. the support being arranged to position and support the or each tube within the tyre. The/or each tube may be annular. The support may be formed from a plastics mesh 102.Type: ApplicationFiled: January 18, 2013Publication date: December 11, 2014Applicant: BENTLEY MOTORS LIMITEDInventor: Andrew James McKinlay

Patent number: 8839905Abstract: A tire cavity noise absorber has a body of sound absorbing material and a support. The absorber is arranged such that, when installed in a tire cavity and the tire is stationary, the support supports the body of sound absorbing material in a position spaced from the inside circumferential wall of the tire. The support may be flexible and allow the body of sound absorbing material to expand towards and contact the inside of the tire when the tire rotates.Type: GrantFiled: August 31, 2011Date of Patent: September 23, 2014Assignee: Bentley Motors LimitedInventors: Jonathan Layfield, Andrew McKinlay

Publication number: 20140152079Abstract: A vehicle trim assembly for mounting directly or indirectly to a vehicle wheel (10) has a centre cap (12), a locking member (13), and a cap badge (36). The locking member is mounted on the centre cap component, whereby a number of projecting portions (28) provided on the locking member (13) engage with a corresponding number of resilient catches (20) provided on the centre cap (12). The locking member is rotatable between a lock and an unlock position. In the lock position, separation of the centre cap component (12) from the vehicle wheel (10) is prevented by the locking member (13). A number of features (39, 40, 41) are provided on the rear face of the cap badge (36). When the cap badge is fitted to the assembly, these features engage with corresponding cooperating features (19, 24) provided on the centre cap (12) and the locking member (13), thereby preventing the locking member from moving relative to the centre cap (12).Type: ApplicationFiled: June 29, 2012Publication date: June 5, 2014Applicant: BENTLEY MOTORS LIMITEDInventors: Christopher Vickers, Mark Phillips, Martin R.
