  • Patent number: 4432958
Abstract: The ammonia contained in ammonia- and hydrogen sulfide-containing gas mixtures is selectively removed through a gas washing with an aqueous ammonium sulfite-bisulfite solution, and recovered from the wash solution as a concentrated aqueous solution. For this purpose the coke oven crude gas is washed with an ammonium sulfite-bisulfite solution led in circulation, the surface tension of which amounts to below 80.times.10.sup.-5 N/cm, then the ammonia gas is driven away from the wash solution enriched with ammonia, e.g. by means of steam, and the released ammonia is recovered e.g. as aqueous ammonium solution through condensation of the vapor. The gas mixture is preferably purified or unpurified coke oven crude gas. In order to reduce the surface tension of the wash solution, alkyl sulfate, alkylamine, pyridine base, phenol or homologs thereof are added as surface active substance. The wash circulation is performed at between 15.degree. and 32.degree. C.

  • Patent number: 4432774
Abstract: An adsorption-desorption process for the recovery of hydrogen from a feed gas containing trace pollutants adapted to be strongly adsorbed, in concentrations generally below 1% by volume and containing components adapted for only light adsorption, in concentrations above 1% by volume is operated through a preliminary first adsorption stage for the strongly adsorbable trace pollutants and a second main adsorption stage for the light adsorbable components and for the discharge of hydrogen. Contrary to the prior art where the adsorption-desorption was effected by alternating high pressure and low pressure cycles in the main adsorption stage only, the pressure cycles in the present case are carried out both in the preliminary first adsorption stage and in the second main adsorption stage, preferably by arranging the two adsorption states in series. The process substantially extends the service time of the adsorber used in the first adsorption stage.

  • Patent number: 4430126
Abstract: With hydraulically setting shaped brick, particularly for construction, composed of(a) 4 to 30% by weight hydraulically or similarly acting binding agent, such as cement, high-hydraulic lime, lime or hydraulically reacting plastic or mixtures thereof;(b) about 60 to 95% by weight mineral aggregate material; and(c) 0 to 10% by weight other additions, the raw material basis is extended with regard to aggregate material, and deposited amounts of country rock from mining are reduced, since the aggregate material is composed of country rock (mining waste material) from mining, particularly hard coal mining, with a grain size up to 15 mm and a finest grain portion under 0.2 mm from 10 to 45% by weight. To produce the shaped brick, the mixture is shaped and then hardened. Through particular choice of granulation and density, the mining waste material can be adjusted to desired quality characteristics and the physical characteristics of the shaped brick varied, corresponding to utility.

  • Patent number: 4415340
Abstract: Nitrogen is separated from oxygen in air by passing the air through a vessel containing carbonaceous molecular sieve until the sieve has adsorbed a predetermined proportion of oxygen. The vessel is then connected to and pressure-equalized with a similar but desorbed vessel and thereupon the connection is broken and the stream of air switched to the second similar vessel. During the first 1-10 seconds during which the product (N.sub.2) gas issues from the second vessel, this stream is diverted since it contains an unusually high oxygen ratio, and either discharged or recirculated to the incoming air. Thereafter the stream of product gas is collected for further use.

  • Patent number: 4407355
Abstract: In a method for decreasing the heat, impulse and material exchange in the direct vicinity of the walls of fluidized bed reactors, the flow resistance to the fluid (agitating medium) conducted through the fluidized bed will be increased in the vicinity of the walls to such an extent that the fluidized bed does not do much agitating in this region; moreover the components sticking out of the interior walls of the reactor serve to extend the rib-shapes from the wall projecting into the reaction space or parallel to the reactor wall while forming a slit with the latter. The components can be pre-fabricated segments and the distance of the annular components in the direction of flow of the fluid should at most be about half as great as the height of the ribs lateral thereto.
