Abstract: A bail release mechanism for a spinning fishing reel having a spring guided by a drive shoe having no fixed pivot to drive a bail support arm from an open-bail position to a closed-bail position. A ramp integral with a bearing cover on the reel drives a trip spring in the form of a Z-shaped wire which moves the bail support arm from a near-over-center position past an over-center position to a remote non-over-center position. A sliding drive shoe couples a bias spring to the bail support arm to drive the bail support arm to one of the open and closed positions. A manually operable trigger engages the bail support arm to drive the bail support arm to the open position.

Abstract: A method of determining the preference of fish to specific materials as attractants or stimulants or determining the palatability of a stimulant to a fish species, particularly trout. The method exposes fish to a chemical inert, fibrous material, digestible by the fish species, such as cellulose pellets, (cotton), containing compounds or materials believed to be potential attractants and measuring the time interval in which the fish species retains or swallows the cellulose pellet. The materials found to be preferred by the fish species may then be included in bait or lures or foodstuffs for such fish species.
Abstract: Resilient flexible fishing rods are disclosed which have a hollow curable resinous body reinforced with graphite or silicon carbide fibers aligned with the rod axis. The rods have good hoop and bending strength and good strength-to-weight ratios.
Abstract: A flexible fishing rod is described having a cross section which tapers from a large butt end to a small tip end. The rod has a hollow section extending along the rod axis from the butt end to a solid tip section formed by compression of the pattern used to make the rod.
Abstract: Powdered, high molecular weight, water soluble, membrane film forming polymeric materials are blended with powdered marine life attractants to produce a free-flowing powdered membrane film forming marine life attractant formulation. The formulation can be applied directly to the wet surface of a lure substrate, forming a gelatinous membrane film on the surface of the lure. When the gelatinous membrane film coated lure in immersed in water, an effective track or trail of marine life attractant is gradually released into the water. By careful selection of the polymeric materials, a formulation can be prepared which will produce a slimy textured viscoelastic gelatinous membrane film on a wet surface or a lure substrate.
Abstract: A fishing line dispenser and display package 10 having a cover 12 and a container section 14 that rotatably engage and support a spool of fishing line 26. The spool 26 rotates around a spindle 54 formed in the dispenser 10. Internal threads 40, formed on the inner circumference of the lip ring 16 provide threadable engagement of cover 12 to the external threads 38 carried by a mouth ring 36 of container 14. A fluid tight seal is provided between cover 12 and container 14 when line is not being dispensed. The fishing line 24 is dispensed through a fishing line feed aperture 22. Also contained within dispenser 10 is a resilient pad 34 for engaging a side wall 48 of the spool 26 and housing 10 thereby providing drag to the fishing line 24 being dispensed.
