  • Patent number: 5599180
Abstract: A circuit arrangement for flame detection for a transistor coil ignition system of a burner is disclosed. The transistor coil ignition system features a trigger stage which triggers a power transistor that is located in the power circuit of the primary winding of an ignition coil in order to charge the primary winding of the ignition coil with a charging current from a power supply. A circuit arrangement includes a switch having an ignition position and a flame detection position which in the flame detection position restricts the charging current flowing via the primary winding of the ignition coil to an intensity that lies below the charging current intensity needed to generate an ignition spark in the ignition position, so that ignition spark-over cannot take place without a flame.

  • Patent number: 5402757
Abstract: Flame glow unit for heating the combustion air for a combustion device, especially an internal combustion engine. A flame glow plug, which is placed in the air duct of the combustion device, is supplied by a control device with current and fuel, and forms an ignitable air-fuel mixture together with the in-flowing air, which is ignited by a heating element provided in the flame glow plug. The resulting flame heats the air in the air duct. The air current in the air duct is measured by an air current measuring device and the control device controls the fuel supply of the flame glow plug in response to the measurements which the control device receives from the air current measuring device.

  • Patent number: 5091631
Abstract: A glow plug for an air compressing internal combustion engine of the type having a tube which is closed at one end and connected to a plug housing on an opposite end with a wire filemant-like resistance element disposed in an insulating material within the tube and formed two series-connected resistance filaments, of which the rear resistance filament, serves as a regulating filament, having a higher positive temperature resistance coefficient than the front resistance filament, which serves as a heating filament, is improved so as to enable the heating up time to be reduced without adversely impacting upon the effective life of the glow plug. In accordance with various embodiments, this result is achieved through the use of, for example, special alloys for the material of the regulating filament which have a resitance at 1000.degree. C. that is greater than their resistance at 20.degree. C. by a resistance ratio over about 7.5:1, and preferably greater than 12:1, and in particular, about 14:1.
