Abstract: A child safety gate assembly for fitting across a staircase, passageway or the like includes a frame having at least one upstanding limb, pivotally connected to which is a gate carrying a latch assembly. The latch assembly is pivotally mounted on the gate and includes a latch member, a release member and an actuating member. The latch member is pivotally mounted on the gate and includes a movable latching portion. The latch member is movable, when the gate is closed, between a latched position, in which the movable latching portion is in engagement with a stationary latching portion and pivotal movement of the gate is prevented, and an unlatched position, in which the movable and stationary latching portions are not in engagement and pivotal movement of the gate is permitted.

One side of the gate is connected by one or more pivotal connections to the one limb of the frame to permit pivotable movement of the gate with respect to the frame about a pivotal axis. The other side of the gate carries a latch member, which cooperates with a latch connected to the other limb of the frame. The latch defines a locked position, in which pivotable movement of the gate is prevented. The pivotal connection is constructed to permit linear movement of the gate relative to the frame in a direction parallel to the pivotal axis. The latch member cooperates with a biasing spring arranged to urge the latch member in the direction away from the said one side of the gate.

Abstract: A child barrier for installation in a passage or the like comprises a frame with two side portions (4) which, in use, are positioned adjacent the walls of the passage, each side portion (4) carrying one or more vertically spaced abutment members (20) for engagement with an adjacent wall. The abutment members on at least one of the side portions is connected thereto by an adjustment mechanism, each adjustment mechanism comprising an elongate threaded member (18), one end of which is connected to the associated abutment member (20) and the other end of which is longitudinally slidably received in the associated side portion. Each adjustment mechanism also includes an adjustment member (24) in screw threaded engagement with the threaded member (18).

Abstract: An infant car seat comprises a back support portion and a leg support portion which merge together at a junction region and which afford respective retaining means. Overlying the junction region is a flexible contour modifying sheet with engagement means at each of two opposed ends. The engagement means at one end are inseparably engaged with the associated retaining means whereby the contour modifying member is not removable from the seat. The other engagement means then extends between the two retaining means spaced from the junction region and has a radius of curvature greater than that of the junction region.
